Can I (as a current o2 iPhone user) upgrade to the new iPhone 3G? I bought the phone in March.

this is from the press release by o2:

Tuesday June 10, 2008 O2 today announced that the iPhone 3G will be available in Ireland on July 11. The iPhone 3G device price will be subsidised and priced according to which of the existing three iPhone tariffs a customer chooses to sign up to. The subsidised device prices will start from just €49.
Existing iPhone customers will be able to upgrade to the new device, taking advantage of the same great deal as new customers. The new pricing is also available for non-iPhone O2 customers eligible for an upgrade.

so the answer to your question is yes, only problem then is what do you do with your old iphone

Just wondering - if you upgrade to the new one from the old will they unlock the old one?

I would expect that the old one will have to exchanged back.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
