Albufeira is really nice. Lots of things to do, and a great beach.

Praia da Rocha is another good place. I think Albufeira is fairly lively, and Praia da Rocha quieter? Though it's a while since I've been.

I think anywhere on the Algarve, you can't go wrong.

Sorry to hijack on the OP but we're undecided between Carvoreira and Albufeira at the moment. Everywhere looks nice tbh. We're looking for nice bars and restaurants nothing too mad as it's a relaxation holiday we're after. The place in Carvoreira we're looking at looks lovely - does anyone know if it would be a bit too quiet?
    Cheers in advance.

Been to Carvoreira around 2003 or 2004. Just me and the missus and it was fine. Can't remember where we stayed but the restaurants and bars were nice although nothing too crazy.
Also been to Praia de Rocha and really liked it as well. Spent a day in Albufeira and it was lovely with some really nice seafood.

Don't think you'll go too far wrong either way.

Lagos to the west is very nice. Bars, restaurants and a lovely atmosphere.

We're going to the Marina Club with Sunworld this August.

Personally i think Albufeira/Montechero (right next to each other) are the best destinations. I recommend: http://www.sunworld.ie/accommodation/portugal/p16a00.htm

Cheers for those. We've decided to rent a villa in corfu instead. There's always next year for the Algarve :D
