    Just do the past papers, questions repeat themselves all the time. And find the special topic, u need to know that. any wen ya get it give it to me too! ;-)

    im not sure, Q5 is welding and Q6 is plastics, thats all i know. You can buy a book in ur local print shop with all the answers from past papers.

    anyone know where the special topic can be found?

    Q1 (a) - General questions. Designed so people wont simply zone in on the individual topics and ignore the rest.
    Q1 (b) - Special Topic: Photo cells. If anyone has the pre question for this could they post it? My teacher never gave us the answer paper back and we hadn't it done then.
    Q2 - Testing inc stress-strain diagram
    Q3 - Heat treatment and Iron-Carbon Equilibrium diagram
    Q4 -Crystal defects, other equilibrium diagrams, and allotropy
    Q5 - Welding
    Q6 - Polymers, formation and process
    Q7 - Machines: Lathe, Milling and Shaping
    Q8 - Mechanisms and other random crap. Not as predictable as ALL the others.

    I'm not even bothering with ordinary Engineering(i hate it so much:mad:), i'm pretty sure i at least passed all my other subjects and i can only see myself scraping a pass if i studied. I might do a bit tommorow morning but no more than an hour :cool:

    Brittleness: A material that is very hard is usually also brittle. It will break if struck. Example hardened iron: is brittle because of the carbon needle martensite structure. Glass is hard and brittle

    Ductility: Ability to be stenched/rolled. Some metals are rolled into sheets of long tubes - these metals need to be ductile

    Malleability: Easy to work, example lead. Red hot iron is also very malleable because of its structure.

    PS martensite has Base Centre Tetragonal Structure!

    Engineering is not harder/easier than most other Leaving Cert subjects.
    However, there is one very big problem with it.
    In the entiire country, only one book has been printed on the subject, and this book does not cover everything on the course.

    For this reason, Engineering is difficult because most of it is your own research and work. When you take into account the fact that you also have to do a practical and a project (that takes up a lot of time for the Leaving Cert) it is really not a recommended subject (unless you really, really want to do Engineering at third level).

    Personally, I hate the damn subject and cant wait for it to be over.

    Sir Barolot is on the ball. When I made out notes to study I based them on the exam papers, and I had to consult the marking schemes the WHOLE time to find loads of answers not in the book. Like theres this type of welding (electro slag welding) that is really commonly asked, but not in the book.

    But if you like Engineering and making stuff, then it can be very rewarding, especcially the project.

    Even the Short Questions were decent enough.
    Also, loved the Special Topic Question.

    Besides that, I thought it was difficult enough, but I reckon I'm looking at a C3.

    Did anyone by any chance download that page from the 2fm website that explained all of the questions??

    I had the link saved but they updated the website and now its gone! It was done for the 08 special topic but it would still be hand for this year with all the other questions! If anyone has it, please pm me!
