There is a martial arts club in Baldoyle Industrial Estate not too far from you that teaches a variety of martial arts courses. The timetable and some contact information is here www.sbgnorthside.com. There's a Cardio Kickboxing class aimed specifically at women that involves performing some kickboxing training with an emphasis on improving fitness rather than actually fighting. A typical class would involve some crunches/squats etc. and them performing some punching/kicking combinations.

There are also grappling/wrestling classes available for anybody (but mostly guys do it) that consist of learning new techniques, practising/drilling those techniques and then trying to use those techniques in a sparring atmosphere. This is what those type of classes look like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHXtvAdqkPk&feature=related

that video is from another gym but it's the same idea.

There are also other similar clubs around for example http://ko-martialarts.com/ in glasnevin/cabra

Any more questions fire away lots of people here will give you advice.

Why not drop over to Portmarnock on Saturday 14th June (10:00am to 4:00pm). There's a Judo competition there, but there's displays of Kickboxing, Kenpo Karate, Kung-Fun & even Kendo so you'll get a taste of a few styles.

You're welcome to a few free sessions just off Drumcondra Road if you fancy it. We've a good few new starters and the mo - male and female. There are few videos on the website to give you an idea of what we're about. Give me a call if you fancy trying it out. :)

There's a Bujinkan club in Glasnevin...
    http://www.fudochin.com/classes.htm

    and one in Artane
    http://www.hickeydojo.com/

Bujinkan is perfect for women (doesn't rely on strength/stamina), is a long term art, and is non-competitive. It involves all weapons, all ranges, multiples and unarmed. It's a modern Japanese art drawn from 9 classical Samurai/Ninja schools.

I recommend that you contact the school, watch a class and have as many questions as possible for the teacher.

I live in Santry too, if you have no transport you should check out the new community hall across from Quik Fit, there are lots of different classes starting up there. I know there are other clubs close by, I've seen them advertise on the noticeboards in Tesco and the Post Office window in Omni, so maybe have a look there.

If you can travel a bit, we have Aikido classes in Swords twice a week or BJJ in Fairview three times a week, with an 8 week beginners BJJ course on Tuesday nights. (www.defendu.ie)

Best thing to do is to have a look at a class first and see if you like it

Hey Shamanic, I'd politely request that you consider Kendo. Its not for everyone but its different.
