    Hi There,

Im thinking of going to Rome for a few days with some friends. Ideally we would like to stay somewhere cheap and cheerful. It doesn't have to be in the city of Rome but somewhere that has a good train/bus service into the city.

Your comments would be greatly appreciated

You could try this place. The rooms are very basic, but clean, as you would expect in a former convent, and it's very cheap. However the best thing about it is that it's a couple of hundred yards from St. Peter's. Walk out the front door, turn left and all you cann see at the end of the street is the dome. It's also within walking distance of most of the other main tourist attractions.

Accomodation in Rome is notoriously expensive, however I would think twice about staying outside the city and travelling in. I think whatever money you would save, you would end up spending on transfers and after a long day traipsing around sight-seeing I think the last thing you would feel like doing is getting on a bus or train.

I stayed last year in the Hotel Caprice, it is in a great location, 5 mins walk from the Spanish Steps. The accomodation is fairly basic, but very clean and comfortable with a good breakfast thrown in. The rooms there are about €100-€120 per night, which is reasonable for Rome!

Please re-consider staying outside the city, it's lovely to be able to return to your room in the afternoon for a few hours before heading out at night, I think you would regret it if you stayed too far out. Enjoy, Rome is an amazing city!

We stayed at the sant angelo in January 2008 and found the location fantastic. We could walk to St Peters in 10 minutes also the Spanish Steps and all the sites were within a 15 minute walk.
Sant Angelo is basic but clean ,we got a good breakfast each morning and the
street it is in is quiet. We booked through 1800 hotels and they recommended this hotel. I think it only cost us 160 euro for a double room for
3 nights which is very reasonable for rome.
