    What does your contract show?
If you don't have a contract then why not?

No, there is no law to get you your overtime

I dont have my contract but from what i can recall there's no mention of any rate of pay after 40 hours, just says double times for sunday and thats it

if you think of it another way your boss could be thinking he is doing you a favour offering overtime (more money for you) - if you work for the place I think you do then unlikely you will be offered anything above standard rate (which if you could do with the cash and have the free time could come in handy!)

Normal practice for weekday jobs is 1.5 times for Saturday and 2.0 times for sundays and B/H.

Normal practice maybe but unless it's in the contract there's no requirement to implement it. I don't have any such provisions in my contract for example.

If you get paid a salary, then nothing is sure unless you agree something before hand.
If I came into work on a sat for a couple of hours then I'd get time off later. That's because I get paid a salary.
If I work a bank hol, then I get paid for that plus two days off. I wouldn't do it otherwise, so they are prepared to make it worth my while.

However, people on the floor get paid by the hour, so they get time and a half for the first 4 hrs and double after that.
Every where is different and it is basically up to you to ask before hand what that entitles you to, if anything.
