I have received two Eircom related phishing emails in the last six months, I have since forwarded them on to Eircom.

Yeah, I definitely could see some elderly person falling for that. Despite the Hotmail reply-to email address.

Despite the Hotmail reply-to email address.
How can you tell it is hotmail address when it is supportz@eircom.net How do they fake the @eircom.net part in a hotmail address? The z in support is a real give away

    As a CC address??
Why didn't they send from that address?
To create an Eircom email address you have to be an Eircom customer.
Certainly not 100% traceable/foolproof as someone could just steal an Eircom customer's wireless signal and register and email from there under the Eircom customer's IP.

I don't think it is cc. am I wrong?

Email headers can be faked and is likely what they did in this case.

    [edit]Example.

You can fake a sent from address, you can just use a SMTP server (which most of them still dont use a user name / password, just for recieving mail because thats connected to your account, but sending does not need verification) i can just use (im guessing) smtp.eircom.net and fill in any sent from address that i want. The only thing that will really give it off is the IP address it was sent from, and if their smart they spoofed that :)

Oh I agree. I think it's decent to put up stuff like that, especially when it's targetted directly at Irish users. I just think it's a very bad attempt to scam people.
