Woodstown GC Kildare - Membership Change...??

I heard that woodstown golf club's membership setup is up for review at the end of the month. Possibly a complete change.

Anyone guess as to whether this is going to work out cheaper or more expensive?

    Existing membership details here: http://www.woodlandsgolf.org/?q=Membership

    Thanks
    Willy

The way things are going all around the country, I'd say prices will be falling. Particullarly entrance fees.

I have heard the course itself isn't great, anyone played there?

I reckon there should be a permanent thread on here informing people about membership deals, as there are often just for a limited time so you have to get in there quick.

Just out of interest its €1,000 to join and than about much is the sub after that?? It must be €1,000 a year at least.

Still, Golf in Ireland is going down. The sooner the better if you ask me!

Currently its €700 ish but I say it will be heading towards €1000 soon.

Its a great course (Won my first open there so thats why)

Its not a bad course and has come on a good bit over the years.

They aren't doing well (money) lately due to the bad weather but I am sure a lot of courses are suffering due to the weather.

    Trampas,

I play a few of the courses out that direction, would you'd rate it closer to Bodenstown for example or Millicent/Killeen ?

There isnt much info on their website with regard to scorecard or anything, what length would you say it is and do they have anything in terms of practise facilities ?

    Cheers,
    PK

Yeah, it is good. I think a lot of research must go into it as it is full of good info. There is a card for every course i've ever looked for too. I find myself going back to it again and again.

It's not th e worst course around. Has improved a lot over the years, back nine is very good. Front nine is not the best but for that money it's worth it

Dear old mods! Is there an chance of having a sticky thread on here about membership offers?? Or is that a no go? I'm always looking out for offers on different golf course either be it membership or green fees.

I reckon over the next 12 months golf prices, mainly membership will dramatically drop. So it would be great to keep on top of it all......

If anyone else feels the same, leave a comment.....

Great idea, Newlands was open for 60 members at the start of this year, if I had only known... although I see GUI search is sticky'ed although not sure if it's that comprehensive

It's not comprehensive but it's a very good start. That combined with people adding up their own fidnings should make for a comprehensive list.

Your dead right lads, if and when we all pitch in with all the different offers, (and you wait and see, clubs will soon try and start out doing themselves with offers to attract new members) we’ll definitely come up with an ultimate list of good, reasonably priced clubs to join.

I would expect people coming new to the game and just looking to join a club (who wouldn’t necessarily leave a comment on the golf thread) would find this very beneficial also.

Hmmm. I'm not sure if going for the cheapest club around or the one dropping it's entry fee is the best way to proceed. You need to consider:
    • proximity
    • suitability of the course to your requirements (your playing level, your golfing ambitions, how often you want to play, your permanency in the locale)
    • practice facilities
    • Clubhouse facilities - lockers, restaurant etc
    • number of members, availability of slots
    • viability - will it survive
    • friends/neighbours/family/colleagues who play there
    • how it handles our weather conditions

Once you join, you are a member who has to help to ensure it is financially viable and is somewhere you enjoy playing and socialising, perhaps occasionally entertaining your friends/neighbours/family/colleagues there.

Many people view the joining fee as an investment and are concerned about devaluation or losing it if they have to move or give up playing for whatever reason. While everyone (well almost) has a budget, joining a club is for most people a once-in-a-lifetime thing. The cost of joining most clubs is similar to the cost of a car (similar range of prices). You will get much more value from your club membership :)
