Does anyone live in an apartment block and connect to sky through a communal dish? If so are you being charge a montly fee or was there a once off connection fee. My development has an IRS system which was installed by the builder, it has 13 channels through the pipe and two satelite feeds, there is also a broadband connection. They monthly sub is €18 for just the TV. I want to get sky but still have to pay the €18 sub even if I don't want it. Is this common practice in new developments. Surely this is preventing competition. Any thoughts would be appreciated as I can not pay this sub on principle.

I did once live in place where it was €50 for the year. There was also 13 or so tv channels which were really terrible but they were free.

    That sounds very steep!!

We have a communal dish in our apt block also. The charge is 15 Euro per quarter for "maintenance". Also had to pay them 60 Euro installation on top of the Sky+ installation cost.

I went 4 months without TV because I did not want to do business with this crowd (read bad reports on the internet about them), but eventually had to give in as NTL were taking way too long to come into the estate.

My crowd initially said that the 15 Euro was for an handful of non satellite channels they provided. When I said I didnt want them, they said it was also for the maintenance! :)

Come to think of it, I'm only receiving the satellite channels, so I must chase them up on these other channels.....the TV link is great for watching Sky in the bedroom but a pain in the ass if both of us want to watch something different!
