    Hey,

I have applied for the part-time Diploma in Web Design in Dublin Business School...

    Has anyone done this course?

Or has anyone studied full time web design in any college that could have a look at this course and see if it's worth my while.

    http://www.dbs.ie/diploma-web-design/tabid/449/

    Thanks!

Hi....are you looking to move into that area as a job? If so this might not be the best course as it seems to focus on static sites, having said that it might offer a good foundation

i was thinking about that one in dbs in the winter until i came across this
    http://www.iact.ie/iopen24/product_info.php?products_id=4

the dbs seems to start off at the most basic level and i for one didnt fancy being told how to search or use my favorites panel....seriously if you cant do that youve no business in a web design course imo. but was considering it for the later stages but then the one in above link seems to deliver the goods! more expensive but a much longer course so better value really 24 weeks to 10 weeks part time.
so it really depends on whether you feel a basic course or a more advanced one is for you!

    hi chocolate pan
thanks for the post. I'm looking for a web design course also and felt that the course offered by dbs fell between two stools. The IACT course looks good. Did you take the course already?

hi JT77 no i havent taken the course yet, would love to hear from someone who has! i only came across it the other day and contacted them for start dates, the next one is 2nd sept which is a bit too soon for me but im sure there'll be another after. its actually 24 classes over 12 weeks so will prob start again around dec/jan so ill prob go for it then! Of any courses ive seen it seems to be the most comprehensive.

I know its an old post but i see your considering taking up this course in Jan so thought i would offer some suggestions before you do.
This course isnt much better to be honest from looking at whats on offer, while it may not be as basic as the DBS one it still teaches stuff like frames which is really considered a no no these days and doesnt seem to focus on CSS much which is the standard these days. Really you wanna be looking for a course covering XHTML with CSS, not using tables or frames and looking at current web design standards. Unfortunately a course like this doesnt really exist and the places giving courses just churn out the same courses they have for the last 5 years without updating their material. While the IACT course is slightly better you wont come out with the advanced knowledge you think you are going to and will still have a lot to learn.

I would suggest taking a look at www.lynda.com for online video tutorials and also at www.w3schools.com and considering learning in your own time. Also read up on the current web design practices to see what you should be getting from your courses taking into consideration like i said most churn out the same course they did 5 years ago.
