    Hi, Can anyone please tell me the best substrate (bedding) or pythons.

    I use either orchid bark or aspen with my snakes.

    Can i buy aspen in reptile haven or do they stock it in most pet shops. what does it look like, ie sand, bark?

    What sort of python have you got mate?I've found aspen,beech
    chipping and best of all newspaper.I've found orchid bark can
    harbour reptile mites so you might want to boil it first,this substrate
    is good for reptile that need high humidity.

    Royal, and also whats the best place to place the thermometer, i have a hot end and a cold end?

    I'm sorry I have to disagree,royal pythons come from grass planes in
    Togo, Benin, and Ghana etc. They need humidity of around 50-60%
    (moderate) and I would increase this to 70-80% when in shed,or
    you can offer a humid hide.
    As for substrate I would use newspaper or if you want something that
    looks the part try a reptile carpet.If you must go down the wood chip
    route which is not best for an animal that is best fed in it's viv
    I would use aspen or hemp core. Here's is a couple of good Royal/ball
    python caresheets,and yes you want to measure the basking spot as
    well as the ambient temps.
