just to be clear, are you looking for a pitch and putt course or a pay and play golf course?

It's a great course, the greens are usually always in good nick - i think its 6 or 7 quid, starts with testing 40/50 yarders right the way up to around 170/180 yards...

bring a pw, lob, putter and a 7!

The spawell has a P+P course, not always in good nick, but 1 min off the M50 if you take the Tallaght exit- Also has a driving range if the weather's bad but you still fancy hit afew balls..

A case which highlights the need for a Pitch and Putt sub forum in my opinion. What do you think?

not sure, if the OP had answered my question I would have merged this with the Pitch and Putt sticky. As far as I can tell the sticky thread seems to be able to cope with the throughput, but I'm not against a forum if the admins decide it is needed.

    Hi,

I was recently told about a Pitch and Putt course around Rathfarnham/Ballyboden that apparently had quite a bit of water and was generally a little different than most courses.

Does anyone know the one that the person was talking about by any chance?

There's one just beyond Lamb's Cross, before Stepaside on the right-hand side, a par 3 not far beyond that, and another par 3 about a mile or so beyond that, the far side of Stepaside.

Know these alright as I only live around the corner.

Tend to stick to the one half way up the mountains in Glencullen. Virtually every hole is up or down quite a steep hill. Tis on the road between Stepaside and Johnny Foxes - tis on the Red House Rd and Ballymonduff Rod on Google Maps and right beside what seems to be a 9 hole golf course.

Thank you very much, I will check that out. Cheers!

Actually, anyone here of The Creek Pitch and Putt:

"The Creek Possibly Dublin's strangest Pitch and Putt course. Filled with valleys, rivers, and almost ungolfable terrain. Edmondstown Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16 County Dublin 16, IRELAND"

Played the Creek years ago - back garden of a house up the road just before Sean Doherty's pub (Stocking Lane -from Scholarstown Road, I think)
Great track as you're playing over and back acorss the stream - had my first ever hole in one there - and on the index 1!!!
Love to know if it's still on the go...

As far as I know it is no more. Floods washed away part of the course a couple of years ago. There are two new houses in construction stage in the yard where you used to park.

Bohernabreeena is a nice littel P&P course not far off the Firhouse exit off M50, rshort but some nice little holes. Glenville is another close by, but thats members only as far as I know (it certainly was about 15 years ago anyway)

I was talking to a sales man in American Golf in Tallaght and he was telling me about some really strange course with loads of water near Rathfarnham.

That is what has me posting here.

    @ Jesus_thats_gre

I know where you're on about.

    Good Counsel Pitch and Putt.

Right beside Scholrstown Rd and Taylor's Lane. Down the road from Edmonstown Golf Club(a 2 min drive from it)

Suberb little P and P. I know it very well having lived beside and played it for near 10 years before moving to Wicklow back in 05.

A lot of interesting holes where water is involved. First 11 holes are real quality. LW and the putter was all I needed.

Bit dear mind you, played it recently for 7 bleeding euro.

Double what I used to pay

The Creek just up the road is gone sadly, very interesting course :pac:

BTW, do you know the name of the guy in American Golf who told you about the course? I used to work there, so bit interested :p

dont go near the spawell, green are crap and very poor drainage. A brilliant course is Landstown valley P&p just off the long mile road. Plays across water for most of the holes and is well kept.

Ah, I was told it closed. Good to hear it's still around. Tbh I haven't played it since 2003 I reckon. Good Counsel was always my preferred course.
Might get out there one day to play it again :)

Sad to have to pass Good Counsel overgrown and neglected since they closed it - amazing how quickly nature takes it back...
Took the young lad up to the Creek this evening - still open but not being really maintained - even to the standard it used to be.
I wouldn't spend €7 and €5 for the kid there again but it was interesting for the once off to see it again. Obviously locals aren't touching it now in the state it's in, as there was nobody else on the course on a fine summer's evening!
