Ryanair sent confirmation with wrong name

    Hello,

    My sister's name is Martina but everybody calls her Maria. Maria is on her credit card but Martina is on all other documents. When she booked her Ryanair ticket she booked with Martina because that matches her passport. She paid by credit card and when Ryanair sent the confirmation it was in the same name as is on her credit card, i.e., not the name she used on the Ryanair booking page and not the name on her passport. It says in the Ryanair webpage that they charge 100 euro for a name change but this was clearly not her fault!!!

    I'd appreciate any advice.

    I suspect that it was your sister, and not Ryanair, that made the mistake.

    I have booked "ticketless tickets" for my wife using a credit card with my name, and they came with her name on them. True, it was not with Ryanair, but I think such transactions are so common that no airline's software would alter the name given for the passenger to the name on the credit card used to pay for the booking. If she fights it, I expect that she will be told that.

    The next question is if the two names are so similar that the difference will be disregarded at check-in. I don't know the answer to that.

    The name has to be exactly as per passport - for safety sake i would advise changing it or she may be refused boarding if it is spotted!
    I book about 15 Ryanair flights a day and never once does the name default to the name on the credit card so there is no way i can see how it happened unless a mistype at time of booking.
    Did you ask Ryanair#s advise??

    i will say it again - the name should be exactly as per passport as boarding can be refused.yes true, sometimes errors go unnoticed just as sometimes they dont and get spotted and boarding is denied until you pay a name change fee...

    Hi, Booked a flight with Ryanair but the name on my friends passport is slightly different to the name I put down on her ticket. Does anybody know how strict ryanair are on this policy? Seems a crime that I would have to pay €100 for a name change on a flight that only cost €92 per person. The names are Jackie and jacqueline. I tempted to try it and see will we get away with it.

    Names should be exactly as in the passport.
    Well in my case that is impossible as the airlines booking system does not recognise double barrelled surnames and it simply removes the hyphen or space between the 2 parts and compresses the two parts together with no space in-between.

    You can't win.

    I think there would be very little confusion between Bond-007 and Bond007! You should be all right.

    The strange thing is that the passport office cannot issue a passport with a hyphenated surname. They remove the hyphen and just leave the 2 names separated by a space.

    Example. James Bond-007 is James Bond 007 on the passport and James Bond007 on any airline booking.

    Its 100 euro to change the name online with Ryanair!

    So did your sister realise that she made the mistake, not Ryanair? Did she get the name changed?

However, I fly with Ryanair a lot and once I made a typo in my own name, just inverted two letters, and I had to pay the full price for a name change, or, in my case, a letter change. I think she needs to go to the airport in time and willing to pay for the name change, or else buy a new ticket. DON'T call the hotline whatever you do. They charge a fortune while you are on hold and then they tell you that they can't help, that you need to call another number and, of course, they can't connect you so you have to start calling all over again. I made the mistake of calling about my typo and it cost me about 15 euro and I never spoke to anybody who could help me.

    Well, it sounds impossible unless there is someone in Ryanair manually changing the name to her credit card name. I have often booked with my girlfriends credit card and yet the name has always stayed with my name *because* they ask you for the passengers names seperate to the billing name.     Did you call the reservation centre or the internet support line? You would have to be on the reservation centre's line for a few hours to rack up 15 euro in charges.

    i know of someone who had a problem like that. The name on her birthcert and passport etc is completely different to the name she uses (eg her official name is Mary and she, and everyone else, has called her Ciara since she was a few weeks old!). Her friend booked their flights and put the name Ciara* down. She managed to convince them by bringing all of her IDs with both names and by being first in line for the check in.

    ...but that wasnt with Ryanair. Good luck OP sis!

    I was wondering about that. Will they charge us the original price of the ticket or the current price? The original price was €92 all in. Anyway I have asked her what she wants to do and she wants to chance it. Sure we will find out on Friday.

    They charge the change fee and the difference in fare between the time of original booking. :eek:

    It is often cheaper to book a new ticket when such a mistake is discovered.
