    Hey,

i have u torrent on my vista laptop and just recently upgraded the program to the latest version (1.7.7). Since doing this though, every time that i leave u torrent on for a while and try 2 download anything, a notice comes up stating that u torrent is already on but not responding. I have never had any trouble with the program before and have been using it for ages. It seems to have started when i upgraded it. I just installed service pack 1 for vista but after this had started happening. Any suggestions would be appreciated

First I'd try just uninstalling and reinstalling from a freshly downloaded installer, being sure that you get the version labelled "Stable" from the website.

When uninstalling make sure you remove your profile settings manually if you need to and save the directory the files your active downloads are in.

    +1

And if all else fails, some quick googling should be able to find you an older version of uTorrent.

uninstalled and installed a previous version (1.7.5) same thing happened.

I'm using Nod32 and zonealarm. It's not that the program is using lots of memory, it's just not responding........

I've trawled through some of the uTorrent forums and come up with this:

    http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=30982

Apparently the problem lies with ZA, you'll notice the poster Legal Eagle succeeded after removing ALL instances of ZA. Apart from that, there seem to be a lot of people with the same problem as you, and no definite answer as to why. Personally, I think it's a combination of Vista's notoriety and ZA famous rep for incompatibility with p2p clients.

There was a quick mention of a ZA update at the end, but I think that was in reference to an XP update. But try updating ZA to the most recent version too, that c

So to summarise, remove ZA, and go deeper than simply using the uninstaller. After that, who knows!

There was also talk about Nod32 causing the problem - The antivirus protection. I disabled Nod32 to see if that was the problem - it didn't work.

It seems that utorrent runs ok for about 20 mins then starts using load of CPU and 'spiking'. Eventually when you try to close/open it, utorrent just crashes.

Gonna try uninstalling ZA tomorrow and see if that helps. ATM i've gone back to Azu. God it sux. I hope it's not ZA as I like the prog. C'mon utorrent release a fix.

Ok, uninstalled Zonealarm and cleard out any registry entries related to ZA. Left utorrent running overnight and no crashes. it seems it is ZA that causes the problem on my PC. It's a pity cause i like ZA.

Ive been running 1.7.7 (Build 8179) for a few weeks I've experienced no such problem. It was installed after a fresh reformat of the Operating System.

I never liked Zone Alarm.. its like a frightened Rain Man that needs constant attention

    Apologies for the bump,
After uninstalling zonealarm and getting utorrent to work ok, i've discovered another problem. it seems when i have utorrent running (downloading/uploading) it 'takes over' my connection. I cant update anything or surf the interweb. I've limited both upload and download speeds but to no avail. I have seen this poblem before posted on a couple of forums but i donn't know if there is a fix. Anybody else have any problem like this?

Why not use Abc Torrent? I find it much stable.

Because it's not the worlds favourite bitorrent client :)

AFAIK it doesn't support UPnP which rules it out for some.

Meant to post this ages ago but uninstalling utorrent and replacing it with bittorrent works fine. I've been using it for a while and have had no problems.
