    Hi,
    I am traveling to Malaysia and wondering how much cheaper it would be to buy the like of a canon 400d there.

    Also this will be my first slr is this a good choice or would anyone be willing to make a suggestion for me.

    I bought the Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM in the Canon shop in the Twin Towers mall and it worked out around €400 which is the same as the likes as Komplett.ie. You'll need to shop around away from the high end streets. You could post the same question here http://www.photomalaysia.com/. It's a very active Malaysian Photography Forum. I'm sure you'll get the answer there.

    I bought my Olympus 70-300 lens in Sungei Wang Plaza, for about 2/3 of the price here, 1150 ringgitts (€232), the price marked on the box was 1500, you can bargain away no problem in there. Paying in cash will be a couple of % cheaper than with a card.

    It seemed to me that there are more camera shops on one floor there than in the whole of Dublin and the range of stuff carried is much greater.

    The twin towers mall had much less camera shops and seemed much more expensive.
