Thinking of traveling to Stockholm and then on to Helsinski this summer and I was wondering if anyone had a tips for hostels/hotels, thinks to do, place to see and the like.

Also if you have been there during the summer months what is the weather like.

Plus how expensive it is? Any other tips would begreat as well cheers!:D

It's a couple of years since I've been there, but I loved it. So the few pieces of advice I can give you are as follows:

Stay in Gamla Stan, which is the Old Town. It's beautiful, and you can while away hours walking around it. I stayed in a hostel in the middle of it, can't recall the name of it. It was fine.

Make sure you see the Vasa museum. The Vasa is an old warship, raised intact after it sank on it's maiden voyage (it was too ornate and fancy to actually stay afloat).

The museum of military history is well worth a look. Sweden has a rich military history dating back over the centuries, and the museum is excellent. Keep an eye out for the banner with St. Patrick on it that some Swedish troops captured from Irish mercenaries fighting in Bavaria :)

You should be able to track down the museums easily, and they are central.

It was/is bloody expensive over there. I remember paying about €8 for a regular coffee and a croissant, and at least €6 for a pint. Mind you Ireland has probably caught up in that regard.

Lastly, don't get too distracted by the women. The stereotype is true.

If you haven't booked anything from Stockholm to Helsinki then have a look at the Viking Cruises, overnight is great craic.

There is also a nice art gallery close to the Vasa museum.

As for Helsinki, if the weather is nice take a trip out to Suomenlinna island, it's a sea fortress and really beautiful there. If you are staying for a few days then I would highly recommend a day trip over to Tallinn, the cruise over itself is mental. Once the ferry hits international waters the Finns go nuts, pure booze cruise! Plus the old city of Tallinn is nice.

The ferry crossing from Stockholm to Sweden is really good. As you come out of Stockholm you go through the archipelago and past lots of beautiful little islands.

Plus there is great craic going on on board ship.

If you take the ferry out of Stockholm to Helsinki you pass through the archipelago and on a fine summers evening it is fantastic to be out on deck and loads of photo ops.
Beware do not get in way of mad Finns getting soakage at the buffet meal.
Never saw anyone eat as much as a few of them and then later they are as drunk as skunks.
    Still they are friendly enough.

Take little ferries around the harbour, one way of getting between Vaasa museum and the Parliament buildings/Palace over near Gamla Stan.

I am not allowed discuss …
