There's a slight chance I'll get a picture in a local paper, I'm just pp'ing it now... should I go high contrast... I believe I should bump up the contrast?

    Halp!

    thx :)

I should point out that it's a posed picture of a group of people with the sun behind me.

Ok here's the two pictures... please please please give C&C, especially if you have a calibrated monitor... these are the 8bit jpegs, but I also have them done as 16bit tiffs (I assume that is what will be required).

There's every chance this won't happen but I need to be sure I have it right in case it does.

    Thanks in advance

I like the top one, maybe al ittle over saturated for me, for a paper shot anyway. And they'l want them as a JPEG mostl ikely, not tiff.

    Congrats though

I also rather doubt you're putting anonymous lies on lamp posts... but this is not the thread for that discussion :)

Thanks for the input RCN... I didn't adjust the curves on the first one as I think that would have way oversaturated it... maybe I should flatten it more through the middle with the curves?

It's your signature that screams it's politics in every post of yours that is probs not the forum for discussion.

    :p

They do look a bit over-saturated and a bit bright to me.

The 2nd also looks like it's not level.

Most papers only want jpg files, at 300dpi.

    Best of luck with it.

    Hey Pope,
Hope ya do manage to get one into the paper, its always nice to see your work in a paper.
I would choose No.1 although its a pity the top of the 1st flag has been cut off, they look ok on saturation to me but I would try to recover the converging verticals as its obvious enough. You have left plenty of space on both sides of the subject so that should help in fixing the problem.
    Best of luck with it!

I don't have PS so I think don't know if I can do much with the verticals... I'll have to see if they're required today or not, I think they were leaning towards the tighter group one, though I prefer the first myself, I'll let you know how it goes... thanks again guys.

The paper will crop the image themselves, to fit the space available. They may also do some basic adjustments (saturation, contrast, etc).

First shot gives a context, I would choose that one.

Yeah I preferred the first shot... but the girl doing the choosing thinks she looks better in the second so she's sent that in! Out of my hands now... I'll let you know if it appears :)

Wild guess - girl in the red top made the choice??

Both are good enough to be printed.

All the girls are similar in each picture except the girl in red and long blonde hair and she does look a lot better in the 2nd picture.

    :)

If I was submitting the first one, I would clone out the word TAXI from the bottom right side of the photo.

They look good enough - infact probably far better than anything that will be created from crappy newsprint process. Having said that, I still believe the better the quality is going in - the better the final result will be (crappy print and all!).

In terms of which one, it depends on what you want to be portrayed - if its just a pic on nominal interest of 7 individuals then the 2nd one would be my preference due to the close up aspect of the shot. If telling a story i.e. the president and vice president of nortel telecoms Europe visited the local shed (eh... factory that is) then I'd definitely be submitting the first as it provides greater context to the proud event.

BTW - crappy print and all, its still quite enjoyable to see your pic published.

    Cheers.
