In the mandatorys which can be done in different ways, like (a) proportional to F and to measure wavelength of monochromatic light, if for example you did your diagram/procedure using air track but the next part of the question asks you how you got time intervals of .2 which corresponds to 10 dots on the ticker tape, do you just say "this student used a ticker timer to measure his acceleration and....(explain how he got it) or do you try make something up relating to air track or are you forced to draw the ticker timer and include it in procedure even if u havent done it like that. Because past papers have this type of thing and they also talk about corimeter and spectrometer table which i havent used in class

I've always answered in relation to the linear air track, we never did the ticker-tape. However I'd say the most conclusive way to check is to take a question you're wondering about, go to examinations.ie and get the marking scheme for that year and see how they mark it.

I don't think they'll ask you a specific question like that, that can only be related to one method. The guys setting the exam do look through the popular text books so they will know more than one method is being used.

They always have something a general question that can be explained by both the ticker tape and the air track method.

Quite simply, they cannot punish students because their school have the best or worst facilities for an experiment.

Actually, knowing the mechanism of a ticker tape timer is on the course. Im pretty certain of that. Not really the mechanism but, the basic principle of it ; it punches holes intervals of 0.2 seconds etc.

So, it couldnt hurt to know it.

They do though, Iv seen past questions which have been based on the ticker tape method

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

last year they asked they asked the specific heat capacity of water only by mechanical means. there was uproar about this as the course says bt mechanical OR electrical means. they had to completely rethink the marking scheme because a lot of schools only do it by electrical means. so if they do ask the a proportional to f question they will have to say the 2 ways.
