Heel/plantar problems

I've been running a few mountain run races over the past couple of months, the kind where a slow slog uphill is rewarded by a very fast downhill finish, and have started to get a constant pain in my left heel, the plantar is very sore too. My mountain racing shoes have very little heel support, and the racing community all smile with recognition when I mention my injury- apparently this is a very common problem when running downhill fast. A google search suggests rest/ignore/surgery/walking, so I am wondering if anyone here has any advice? I've just today got gel heel cups, so we'll see how they work out, but if anyone experienced can tell me "ignore this, it will go away as you get used to downhill running!", I will be a very happy chap.

    Cheers,

    Don't heel strike?

Never had it but I've heard it takes a good while to heal

donothoponpop we can't give any medical advice here. Your best option is to go get a professional (doctor, physiotherapist etc) have a look if you are worried about it.

Sorry Hunnymonster, I hadn't even considered this issue to be medical; I was really wondering if changing running gait/running surface had helped anyone here before. I'll take your advice on board.

Had the same problem myself last year, went to a physio and he gave a few exercises to do three times a day. Go to your local physio and get better shoes too.
