Invite to an event from Canon Ireland

Some of you, who are members of CPS, will already be aware of this event but for the rest of you I have been asked by Canon Ireland to pass on an invite for 5D, 1D series owners or potential upgrades from 20/30/40D to 5d/1D series only (sorry... I know some of you won't like this ... but they have already ran quite a number of very sucessful events for the 450/400/350D owners this year) ...

Here is the text of the invite -
Canon invites you to try out the very latest in Professional Digital Imaging.

Canon Ireland are hosting a professional imaging open day in Leopardstown Racecourse to showcase complete workflow solutions, including professional Cameras, Lenses & Accessories, Projectors, Camcorders and lab quality professional A3+ Photo Printers.

Canon’s professional digital imaging specialists will be on hand to help and advise you on your specific requirements. We’ll have our award winning portfolio of professional cameras for you to try including the EOS 1D Mark III, 1Ds Mark III & EOS 5D and the all new EF200mm telephoto lens. There’s even a horse & jockey on hand for you to put our cameras to the test.

There’ll also be free sensor cleaning on the day, as well as a service & support clinic to ensure that you’re getting the best out of your Canon cameras and that they are optimised for the work you do!

    Leopardstown Race Course
    Tuesday 17th June 2008
    Showcase Open 10 - 8pm

Buffet & refreshments provided throughout the day

Please RSVP to Douglas.Brennan@canon.ie by June 12th with the following information -
If they could also provide the following info would be great to give them the right focus on the day

    1. What camera make and models do you currently use?
    2. Which reseller do you normally buy through?
    3. Are you a CPS member?
    4. What areas of photography do you focus on?
    5. Are you planning to attend the event in the morning, afternoon or evening?

Attendance is strictly open to registered guests only.

I urge you, please only reply to Douglas if you are 5D or 1D series owners or are genuinly thinking of upgrading from 20/30/40D... sorry to be so strict but I don't think it fair or reasonable for us to be silly right now ... We'll get something for the rest of you sorted out in due course.

I am working with Canon to secure a separate event exclusive to all boards photo forum members, they have agreed in principle but it may take a while to set up as the plan is to tag it onto something else when they are bringing one of their guru's over from the UK or further afield ... I'll post in the forum when I get more information... for now however suggestions as to interesting topics to cover would be useful and a general expression of interest... I'll set up a specific thread for the purposes of gathering information. Part of the idea I want is to give you the opportunitiy to engage in a active dialogue (and constructive, not just a moan about prices) with Canon where you can learn about products, get access to gear and air your opinions to get direct feedback.

Was really hoping to attend, since I have some CPS questions. Unfortunately, I won't even be in Dublin during the event. Shame I'll miss it.

Look forward to hearing about it after.

Excellent, thanks Leinsterman. This is right beside my workplace so I can make it over at some stage during the day. I'm currently saving all photography-derived monies for the 5D replacement and a few new lenses (17-40 L, 24-70 L/24-105 L) so it would be nice to try out the current model. I assume i can take my own card for inspection purposes afterwards?

I would not bet on that ... unless they bring a test body from the office (they do have one as I borrowed it for a few weeks once) .. even at PMA where some of the major buyers are around Canon would not allow you to use your own CF in their bodies ... it is policy ... especially on new gear ...

But make sure you ask Douglas ...

leinsterman, thanks for sharing the info especially regarding the event for boards member. Hopefully, it gets realised. I'm not a CPS member, pro photographer nor owner of the bigger toys (perhaps in 1-2 years :p) so I wish you guys enjoy the fun and share something with us later on! :D

p/s: uaargh, there will horses and jockey too!

lets see how they get along with registrations ... I'll give it a few days and ask very nicely if we can widen our invite ... but for the moment thanks for being honest ...

    Hi Leinsterman
I might be interested in going along. It's always nice to get a hold of the gear before departing with my hard earned money. I'm also interested in the reason they ask this question... Which reseller do you normally buy through? My answer... Kea-Photo & BH Photo. :D I'd say most other reardes of this forum would answer the same. I don't think that'd go down too well with Canon Ireland.

Wouldn't it be a learning experience for Canon Ireland if most of us told them that we use resellers overseas? I feel it is better to be honest about it.

I think they are all to painfully aware of this ... this is how I met them.

That seems strange - what is the reason for it? I would have thought that it would be encouraged as it means that potential buyers can verify/compare quality with what they already own...anyhoo, I'll head over (if invited :D) and see how I get on....thanks again

I'm guessing that it is mainly an issue for completely new gear that it not widely available ... they probably don't want competitors getting their hand on images so early on ...

It is probably OK for the 5D unless their demo model is new (in which can the camera becomes second hand once an image is written to CF) ... and if it isn't, I'm sure one of your fellow boardsies will be glad to oblige you with a few test shots on your own card ...

Won't be able to make it even though I may be up in the smoke for the day.
I got the mail last week sometime and was planning on going.

Could any good samaritan ask one of the reps there a question for me? Pretty please!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,297 ✭✭✭joolsveer

I have registered and got a reply and am available to ask any questions of the Canon folk. I am planning to go in the morning.

Ok, looks like I might be able to make it for the last hour or so. It should give me enough time to talk to the Canon guys and ask my questions.

i cant make it up on the date so didn't register - is there any point/advantage in registering?
anyway someone might pose these questions:

    Localisation
why is there no Irish outlet for the Canon store?? see this Link

and the same for the "My Canon" newsletter web page

    Support:
Would they consider hosting customer Forums and/or "Live Chat" support like a lot of sites provide these days.

    :)
