Perhaps better composition might have been 1/3 sky, 2/3 ground and the child nearer the foreground (as in within 3-5 feet of the lens but still to the side)

Or from the shot you have do 2/3 sky, 1/3 ground and crop up to the child

    Nice colours though

    * If thats not a child sorry! I cant tell from the photo

Thats what I was going to say, crop it in such a way that you have 2/3 sky and 1/3 sand or 2/3 sand and 1/3 sky. Pics with the horizon are usually boring and uninviting.

+1... But you could try to get the composition done while you're taking the shot. Apart from that I like the shot.

Good shot - I'd also recommend taking one from a much lower position as well and do 2/3 beech to 1/3 sky ?

I'd recommend the opposite to the last poster. The sky would be more interesting (as the beach is quite 'samely') to take up 2/3rds of the shot. It'd look like a desert otherwise, I feel. The sky gives great release in a picture.

Nice shot though. The person makes it, really. Reminds me of a shot from the photographyireland site, but without the OTT treatment.

    I quite like the photo.

Same here. Very simple....but there's something about it that draws you in.:)

I think the Rule of thirds would definitely benefit this photo, you could also, in doing this consider a more dramatic angle by getting the camera much lower to the ground.

Also, what is the horizon? do you have a link to a larger image?

My apologies for editing your shot, but maybe something like this for the crop (I see everything in square format at the moment) ...

As others have said, your subject could do with being a bit closer to the camera ...

I like it though, just a bit of compositional help ...

    Great shot!

Like some of the others I'd like to see more expanse of sky - less sand.
No to square crop - yes to wiiiiiide!

Thanks for all the comments Folks,The reason I posted this shot was to get comments that i can learn from and it worked. I do like the 1st shot myself i find that there is something that does draws you into it ,on saying that if I had of applied the rule of 3rds with more of the sky in the shot and the shot taking from a lower angle it would have looked a lot better.I have posted a cropped version and a B/W version the crop 1 does not make a better photo the changes could have been done at the time not later, here's to the future. Chester Drawers class....
