RPK project, so far

Well I was going to post in pics, but theres too many and its unfinished, it doesn't suit troubleshooting, and the painting thread would be dragged off topic, and the regular forum, I dunno where to put this :D
Seeing as any time me, fiach and puding start discussing ak's though every thread gets derailed, having a separate thread will be a good thing.

I will post pics in the pics thread when it is finished, it needs a buttstock and bipod, but here I have a set of pics that show the paintjob and receiver mainly, not a finished aeg.

    my RPK album

    real rpk receiver

So theres the pics, I wont fill this post with them as it would take ages and there are 12 of them and I would have to resize etc. just leave me alone please ok :D

Well, the RPK receiver I made is based on a TM ak47 receiver, the ak receiver is milled, and rpk(7.62x39mm version) receiver is an akm receiver with reinforcements on the sides for sustained full auto fire.
So I had to replicate an akm receiver and the reinforcements.

The reinforcements are strips of epoxy shaped and sanded to suit, they are a bit rough but do the job, there are three false rivets added to the front of the receiver on both sides, replicating akm stamped receiver.
The top fron of the receiver is the barrel pin, and is a dremeled half moon recess, and another false dowel made of epoxy.
Also the rpk has a synthetic grip, you can see the comparison in the album, between the receivers and the way the grips are attached.
The ak has a wedge between the receiver and the grip, the rpk does not, this wedge was dremeled off, and small notches cut to allow the synthetic grip to fit snugly.
After I was happy with the shape, I painted the whole thing, a bit of a debacle, but I was happy with the finished, uh, finish.

Oh also, the rear sight is a real rpk rear sight, with windage :)

In the album I have an AK in the first finish I did, very glossy, compared to the rpk's matter finish.

The ak for comparison, shows differences in the receivers, remember, the rpk WAS the above ak, before dremelling and epoxy.

So thats it so far, it needs a bipod and a stock and its done :)

If its ok with the mods as its not really a review, people can post in thread as its more of an ongoing project.

Edit: Can I take this opportunity to thank Puding and Shiva for donating parts for this project, and refusing money :D

Looks good man, those JG Dragunov monstrosities come with an RPK style bi pod i think, may suit this?

I'm going to try and get a real one I think, I'll have a look though at the jg yokes though, thanks.

Edit: looks pretty close actually, I'll consider it as a second option.

    Looks great man.

The JG SVD bipod isn't just close to the RPK's, it's an exact copy.

Where would you get a jg bipod on its own though

Bloody annoying as the kit I bought should have included a bipod, I think the cnut kept it.
    Private sale though

Yeah I was surprised you didn't get a bipod with it. Don't know where you could get a JG one on it's own though. Maybe try e-mailing rsov and gunner, they may have a spare one kicking around.

Gunner airsoft say they will have the danmu rpk front end and laminated wood kits back in soon.

So you can build your own :)

Thanks, got through to someone with one at the moment though, but good to have another option.
I have to do some work on the barrel first to see if I can attach a bipod yet, theres an issue.

very very nice, where did you get the rear sight from?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,758 ✭✭✭Stercus Accidit

Private sale on red-alliance, there is a thread on there currently with rear sights for sale.

That looks the buisness Sam. The RS RPK sight really sets it off. The Wood Kit and frontend look really nice.

The cleaning rod and rod collar can move freely, its easy to make a layer of tape to secure them, you cant see anything under the front rod collar.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,314 ✭✭✭Fiach Dubh

I wish I could finish my Yugo with tape. The wood kits a no go, I'm totally snookered with the build :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,758 ✭✭✭Stercus Accidit

Whats wrong with the wood kit?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,314 ✭✭✭Fiach Dubh

The stock is fine, fits grand. The foregrips are about .5cm shorter then the CYMA sythetic grips. I built the frontend for their dimensions, it's all held together with preasure. With the wood grips the frontend is unstable.

7.4v ? did you buy the cells and make it up yourself?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,758 ✭✭✭Stercus Accidit

Uh 7.4 yeah that's what I meant to say :)

I just took my ak47 large 3x2 cell and remade it into a 2x3 to suit the short but tall battery space, theres a mosfet in that stock and a fuse assembly too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

sorry i was not correcting you, i said 7.4? as in it seems rather low, i take it your going for that low rof? what kind of rof are you getting with it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,758 ✭✭✭Stercus Accidit

The low rof is for the milsim, its not too low, a large type will give a higher rof than a similarly spec'd mini.

Theres bearing bushes, systema gears and a mosfet, gets 20 rps on 9.6, I think its 14 or so on this, I prefer it tbh than the bb hose.

i have to agree with you on the rof for mil sim, i love my slow rof star m60 as it has a thud thud sound to teh gear box gives the me at least the impression of a slow fireing heavy round as it where

i know its not as much of a rof drop as you would think beacuse the battery are a high mha rateing, how is the trigger responce you still have the high discharge rate so im hopeing it has not lowered ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,758 ✭✭✭Stercus Accidit

Can't say for sure, this battery has been charged since galway :D

The responce is still fine though, but would be better on a full charge.

I've got a 9.6 4000mAh in mine, so you should be able to fit that in if you wanted :P or even a 10.8 (with one cell going into the gap connecting to the stock)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

running a 9.6 4000mAh myself with eilte cells and it fits in well and does not move around at all, you could run the 10.4v seem it done with other rpk will post a link to a how to page when i get home
