I have a Tornado ball in my collection but it seems to be the only one I have so I won't let it go. It's in poor condition anyway, see attached. I'll have a look and see if I have another one knocking around somewhere.

How rare are these???? Because i know i used to have a few(about 3/4) but im sure i just brought them to the range one day with the rest of my bad balls and just hit them away.

cheers brian i'd really appriciate that. that ball you have is a carbon copy of the one i lost. there that bit smaller and the amonut of spin you can create with one is why i like them so much you have so much control over the ball:D
    .

pulsar i dont know how rare they are but i know they dont make them anymore ........................ :( so there few and far between. i had my other one for 2 years so if i do get one it'll be going to a good home

They aren't on the 2008 conforming list for golf.

I'd imagine they're fine for pitch and putt though.

You played with the same ball for 2 years?

Holy sh*t, the most I'd get from a ball is a couple of rounds before they noticibly start to scuff and enter the pracitce bag.

    Are you fom Cavan? :p

well over a year and a half anyway and no i'm not from cavan i'm from dublin. the thing about the tornado is they get better with age. modern day comando's chip crack and break very easily the tornado's dont. they wear down brilliantly and as i said before there that bit smaller but completly legal so they tend to drop in the hole that bit more although they require a slightly harder putt than a new commando

Cavan bit was only a joke, glossed over the pitch and putt bit altogether.

I remember commandos from my pitch and putt days as a nipper. The old man bought me some because he was sick of me stealing his Titleists.

Good luck with your Tornado hunting.

I didn't find anymore Tornados but I did find some well worn, small size, older Penfold Commandos. Are these better than the modern ones? Are small balls (1.62 inches) legal in P+P?

No, the Pitch & Putt thread as I had said, if you bothered to read it. It has no relevance to the main golf section as it's an illegal ball for golf and people who may have them would more than likely read the P&P thread.

Found a good golf ball collecting site.
    http://www.golfball-guide.de/museum.htm

The Tornado is pictured and listed as being a 1 piece ball made by Penfold. Interestingly (well for an anorak) the older Penfold Commando like the one in my pic is listed as being a 3 piece ball whereas the newer Commando without any "Penfold" text is listed as a 1 piece ball
