    Hey all,
I need some help. I’m coming up to the end of my contract with meteor and I was salivating at the thought of a tasty Nokia N95 8Gb. I had put some thought into switching to o2 for the original iPhone but I heard it’s only ok. Anyway what do people think of the new 3G iPhone (at least on paper) compared with the N95 8Gb?

is there really a need for this poll? A quick trip to gsm arena will show you that any iPhone does not measure up to the 95 8 gig.

    Ask yourself these questions:

Do you want a phone that almost as good as a 95 but has a Sexier interface?

    Buy an iPhone.

Do you want a phone that does more than the iPhone?

    Buy a 95

But is there really much difference between the new iPhone and the N95 8Gb?

The iPhone is a souped-up iPod. Now it can do gps and 3G. It still can't do a lot of things the n95 can, so there is no comparison.

I'm writing this on an iPhone, on the train, btw. :D

N95 - it has more features (like the built in VoiP client, removable battery) and an actual keypad with buttons.

also i don't like the concept of switching to another network to get the phone. people shouldn't take this 'exclusive deal' crap. Its a bit old fashioned, like the olden days when a particular phone was designed from the ground up for one particular network and couldnt be switched

sorry for being a bit dim but how exactly is the N95 FAR BETTER than the iphone 3g now that the iphone is cheaper .

I know the 5 mega pixel camera and video player and downloadable apps and VOIP etc etc. sure the N95 does more things and on a bigger scale

......but the mass market wants things a bit simpler and slimmer and the iphone does that. while still having important things like a decent browser (with massive screen) , push email, a decent music player (ipod no less), GPS etc

I used to sell the N95 and I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. I find the O/S and other software that runs on those Nokias far too slow and clunky.

After seeing the specs of the next generation iPhone, I totally want one and am considering switching networks to get it. Pity I'd have to do that, though - I agree about the stupidity of the 'exclusive' deal, and I'll have to wait until September (or buy out my contract, which in fairness is only €19 a month anyway) to do it...

if you like messing around and installing applications the N95 would have more available. There are lots of apps coming for the iPhone but they all have to be approved by Apple.

I have an N95 8gb and was feeling qiute anxious about the announcement of the iPhone 3G.

After hearing about it's "capabilities" are, i can say that i am very happy that i didn't wait for it to be released. I can say that in a lot of ways the N95 8gb is far superior to the souped-up ipod that Apple call a phone!! :pac:

It's not a phone, it's an iPod that just happens to be able to make phonecalls. :D

Neither,. go for the LG KU990 better than both those phones.

How about Nokia N96 vs HTC Touch Pro/Touch Diamond. :)
3G iphone... cute device but again for all the ridiculous hype it's by no means the best thing out there.
There ARE other devices FFS. :)

Also those LG devices aren't that great- why are they being mentioned

The N95 is a nice phone but the OS is rubbish, it's slow and sluggish to do anything with. I have an N73 and I hate the damn thing, especially since Nokia updated the firmware and broke the Bluetooth working with Macs. Take swhat seems an eternity to power up, major lags when going to SMS etc. Just a bad experience. That said the Nokia cameras do have the edge over the Sony imo.

I'm at the end of my current VF contract and am wondering where to go next. It definitely won't be the N95, I like the iPhone but I already have an iPod Touch . . . . Being an Apple whore this surprises me - that I don't want one

I prefer the SE W960i. SE have always had great compatibility with Macs and the phones themselves are very stylish plus for music functionality ya can't beat a Walkman !! Slick to use as well.

Edit: Oh and predictive text (T9) on Nokia is pants too.

Tell me about it; I once added "HP" to my dictionary and I never get "is" now without spelling.

When I type 'was' I get 'yap' and I haven't changed anything !!
On the Sony you get a prediction of what the next word will be or you get a list of possible words - a much better scheme imo.

I hear ya. I've had the N95 for almost a year now and I'm so sick of the OS. I think I've just had my last Symbian OS. I'm going to the states next month and plan on buying the HTC diamond touch - already have a 16GB ipod touch. Anyway, I prefer to keep some things seperate. Don't really want phone/mp3 player on the scale of the 3G iPhone, though it's a great piece of kit. I'd go for that over a Nokia, unless they sort out the OS for future models.

Do you mean you've had the original N95 or the N95 8Gb? I'm wondering because i would have thought the extra memory in the 8Gb version would have improved the performance of the os

i don't have any probs with the os on my 95-2, I have found iphone text entering to be sluggish at times. Im posting from my touch now and its predictive text is both brilliant and annoying in equal measures

Original n95 works infinitely better once you upgrade to the latest firmware. I suspect a lot of negative views come from its much clunkier feel when initially released.

yeah that pisses me off. it's the same on the e65
