hi folks, have decided to go for an air rifle, rather than pistol to start off. ( less grief security wise)

i checked with my local shop and the highest power one they have are 12ft/LB...

they say that its the legal requirement. (for the uk) as they import from uk.

can you tell me how / where i can source a stronger powered one, ?

i want it for target shooting, vermin, was was going for a .22 one.

    any advice?

EIN, if you're going to start with Air Rifle and you're in Drogheda, drive over to Wilkinstown (4km due north of Navan) and have a chat with Geoff. Don't bother buying an air rifle yet, use the club kit.

On the .22 vs .177 thing, you'll find it hard to find a target shooting competition that uses .22 airguns round here. Target shooting tends to be done with .177 and vermin control with .22. The two types of airgun are built very differently. Seriously, go to the club, try them both out for a while, then decide.

can anyone recommed an air rifle in the 28-30 ft/lb range?

am currently looking at a BSA super 10 with sight for €1100 ish...

    any suggestions what to get?

im after a .22 to give me the option of shooting vermin with it also.

John Conroy in Portlaoise is the importer for the Fx airguns, he should be able to sort you out with something. The Fx airguns have adjustable power settings 14-30 ft-lbs to allow you to shoot in sheds at low settings and outdoors at high settings

I had the Air Arms S410 Xtra FAC in around 30 Ft/lbs. Great rifle, very acurate and all that but, two things - heavy for lugging around while hunting and long - bit of a pain getting in and out of Cars etc.
If I was buying again I would look for:

    1) A carbine version - That BSA you talk about comes in a lovely bull barrell carbine with a full length moderator.

    2) Adjustable power setting - They really suck air at 30 lbs pressure. It is really handy to be able to adjust the power in around buildings etc.

I would also advise bisley magnum pellets at the higher pressures - they are designed for it.

The BSA rifles get excellent reviews, although I havnt tried them myself.

Just spoke with fella in Duffys in Galway over the phone this evening regarding getting an air rifle. He said he'd recommend the Gamo 1250 which he says customers have raved about in .22 form.

Anyone any experience/comments on this rifle for plinking/vermin shooting ?

Never mentioned price, what are these rifles going for ?
