Please excuse the extreme specificity of the thread :p

So I'm preparing for a certain gig which I'll be camping at during the summer and decided I need a new torch, I go camping every 6 months or so with friends and have decided to get a decent one!
Browsing www.dealextreme.com I was presented with a host of different torches of all shapes and sizes, bulbs, batteries and capacities.

So, can anyone point me in the right direction. Trying to keep the costs down and I simply want a hard wearing flashlight with a clear and lengthy radiation with as long a battery life as possible.

    Cheers, Brian.

Headtorch tbh. Its the best for camping and festivals. You could go to any camping shop in the country and get a good one there.

The best torch I have seen is the scurion
    http://www.scurion.ch/body_index.html
but thats more then slightly overkill for your usage.

For just some summer camping i would recommend an LED headlight that takes AA batteries (though aaa are more common) and has a few LED's (rather then one high wattage one)
    Something like http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/16-led-headlamp-29724515/

decathalon do a headlamp with a retracting headband that is really small and is handy to keep in your pocket. It is a knock of off the petzl zipka but alot cheaper http://www.outdoorreview.com/cat/outdoor-equipment/backpacking-camping-hiking/headlamps/petzl/PRD_103120_2994crx.aspx

hey i have a petzl LED head torch (the tactikka xp) and think its great. its similar to these ones:

    http://en.petzl.com/petzl/LampesNews?News=182

batteries wise is is very efficent becuase it is LED. its nice and small so fit in the pocket nicely so your not walking around at you festival with a big bulky thing in your pocket or on your head and it has 3 light intensities plus a strobe function that might come in hand when you get back to your tent and out the radio on:D

as you can see from the link they come in lasorts of colours

you can pick them up in most good camping shops and they are not that expensive.

Agree with evil phil for a headtorch, but if you want somy=thing a bit more substantial, get one of those LED ones that take a big square batt as the batt lasts for days and they give off great light

yup. headtorch. the petzl taktica xp is brilliant. have one myself. you can get extra diffusor filters in different colours (red doesn't mess with your night vision, green cannot be seen from a distance, and blue is good for following bloodtrails when hunting) but if you are not a total outdoor maniac the energiser head torches are just fine. cheap (about a ten to fifteen quid i think.) and reasonably sturdy.

    Have a look here: http://www.ledshoppe.com/
Cheap as chips, work great, very bright and long lasting (on batteries).

Allow a couple of weeks for delivery though. Probably more suitable for gigs than outdoor pursuits though.
