I currently have SKY (for about 10 years) but am thinking about getting SKY Plus. The current contract is in my name.

Is it posssible to get the new SKY Plus contract in my wifes name as a "New Customer" and benefit from the pricing applicable to a new customer?

Would Sky have any problems with this?

    Thanks

A friend of mine tried this, but was told no, because it was linked to the address aswell. Though that was a while back.

It may be relevant, but then again it may be wrong, but I was called ab out 2 weeks ago by one of those phone survey companies and asked to take a survey for Sky.

One of the questions was "are you aware that all new customer offers are now applicable to existing customers as well?"

Obviously I answered no, and asked the guy about it! But he didn't have any info. He just said that they only get the questions given to them, but he checked the wording and that was exactly the way it was written.

So by the sounds of it you may now be able to take up what ever the current offer is with Sky regardless of your existing customer status.

Was talking to Sky today and there are no special offers available to existing customers, prices are per web site.

Hopefully sky will eventually look at existing customers and make some offer (i do realise they provided the dish / sky box when I originally signed up)

    Hi,

I can confirm that this will work. My sister and her husband had Sky in their place - it was under his name. I had Sky+ and the introduce a friend for free offer was on last August or so (which i had myself availed of).

Anyways, they cancelled their Sky subscription, then signed up under my sister's name using me as a the introduce a friend. Engineer called out with the sky+ box etc and left the original Sky box with them also!

    So - it works.

Do not use the same phonenumber used on the original contract, as this is checked by Sky.

What phone number should I use then? Do they not check that this is an active number firstly?

    Thanks

Dunno what phone number you should use. But if you try using the number used previously, it'll come up on Sky's db as been used for a previous installation. I've seen it happen to somebody else who tried that stunt.

Maybe use mobile number and pay NPL (no phone line) fee?

Or insist that the previous subscriber has moved out, taking all equipment with them...

Tony posted a thread yesterday called "Sky HD , SKY + rebranding" . It appears that Sky are now going to chare new and existing customers the same to upgrade (to HD anyway). This may make a difference to you.

Yes this works. I did it recently to upgrade to Sky +. I rang sky and changed my address to my parents house. My girlfriend then ordered sky +, saying she just moved into the house. About two weeks later the sky + arrived. I then rang sky and cancelled my subscription, and told them I was moving to Australia, so that they would not try and ring me in 6 weeks to sign up for sky again. We now both enjoy the full benefits of sky +.

Do you want to know the irony of the whole thing, it was my local sky agent that told me to do it. :D

Dammit, this was anything but clear on the Sky web site (to me anyway...)

Can anyone tell me how much it costs to upgrade an existing subscription to (standard def) Sky+? I'm kinda supposed to be getting this for my Dad for his birthday and I'm starting to worry about how much it's actually going to cost...

    Cheers.

A Sky+ subscription is now free, as long as you subscribe to any Sky package.

If you get a sky+ on ebay - do you need to get on to sky to get a new card or can you just use the card you currently have and just get the + service activated on it?

    just use your existing card.

Not so - I rang the other day to get Sky+ for €99 as advertised on their website they told me existing customers have to pay €149 -I'm with them over 5 years and paying them nearly €70 a month so I told them to shove it and got rid of all my extra packages
