Depends on the price really. If it's cheap enough to get somebody to splash for a Canon as opposed to a Nikon, it's almost 100% certain their next camera will be a Canon if/when they upgrade, not to mention lenses.

List price, body only is 549 on that site. Looks good. Similar to the 350d.

well, it's 200 dollars more than a Nikon D60 (in USA)

and so far (at least on this forum) people without any legacy gear who went to shops and tried both brands have chosen Nikon for its ergonomics and feel (specs are about the same anyway)

The high number is confusing and it looks just like the 400D, they already have the 450D too!!
Maybe they're going to phase the 400D out?

it will probably bring a need to buy SD cards. It looks like Canon are moving away from CF cards completely, from high-end to low-end DSLRs as well as compacts [my G3 used CF cards but the G9 uses SD].

I reckon they are - the price difference between the 450D and 40D is very small now, so I imagine they'll want to recreate the gap between consumer/semi pro.

I've been told by a couple of camera shops that the 400D has been discontinued, have been trying to order it on the internet for the past week or so. I managed on Saturday to get it from Park Cameras :) w00t!
