Filling out the pages.

    Hey everyone,
I've been working on a story/possible book for a few months now but have trouble bulking it up/filling out the pages.

So far, it's looking more like a short story more than anything else.

Any ideas for me as to how I could "fill out the pages"?

    Thanks in advance.;)

Don't sacrifice quality for quantity. Bulking up can lose tempo and add drag to your storyline. Think about expanding the plot? Just guessing, given that I have not seen your work.

You could always keep it the length it is and write another connected (or unconnected) short story and put them together for one book?

Maybe about past events described or that kind of thing.

    Best of luck with it.

EDIT: Definitely agree with the above poster about not beefing it up for the sake of it, by the way.

I agree with B_L. I would almost start again, using your first draft as a plan. Expand that plan, along with character analysis and anything else you think will help your story, or anything you may have skipped over. The last thing you want to be doing is bulking it out. Don't be disappointed that you haven't gotten your book written first go, most (maybe even all) writers go through several drafts and revisions before they get to something approaching finished. And then its given to an editor for further revisions!

OP, it could be a sign that thew story is one-dimensional -- a little flat. Generally, bulking up the plot would be the way to go here; not trying to fill the pages with, well, filler.
My advice woul be to rework the plot, perhaps by adding in a subplot involving one of the less significant characters. This can also lead into some nice twists for the end of the book.
Of course, without knowing the story, it's guesswork. But if you feel you have to start adding in needless paragraphs, because the plot is reed-thin, then you're probably not going to have a very good book on your hands.
