Is there anyway I can find out who is hosting a particular website?
    Cheers

You could check dnsstuff.com to see who the domain's ip points at - cross reference that with the nameservers

www.who.is does the job as well.

It doesn't do ip lookups terribly well and gets completely confused by .ie domains:

    http://www.who.is/whois-ie/ip-address/blacknight.ie/

Trying to work out who hosts a domain from that would require ESP :)

You could try doing "tracert" to the domain name, and then do a "tracert" to the IP address that gets reported back.

Yes, but a LOT of the smaller hosters don't have their own IP allocations, so you'd only see the netblock owner

eh, thats something I never knew! I always thought it was a good website, and changed from dnsstuff because it was faster... faster, but obviously worse.

It's fine for basic stuff ie. who owns a domain, but hopeless for more advanced stuff. The ip whois stuff is obviously working from the arin db only
