Hi guys, sorry if this is the wrong forum, just wondering if you may have any experience on these units....do they work, or are they just a load of bull that sit in the corner of a room wasting energy?
Trying to weed my house of mice at the moment.......

The missus hates mice and we've got these in almost every room. I don't know if its been scientifically proven that they work but we haven't had a mouse in the house for a few years.

I've heard some people swear by them and others say they're a waste of time.

In my experience, it didn't seem to make any difference if the mice we're already there, but I've never had mice move in, so to speak (I'm picturing them with little suitcases:D), when I've had the zapper thingy plugged in, so perhaps it's just irritates them rather than makes their lives unbearable.

We had a cockroach problem in our apartment and got one of these. While not perfect it seems to have helped things.

Have a problem with rats under the floorboards, will the repellers work if I plug them in above ground or will I need to get them underground ?

They won't work on rodents already in the house. We have one of these years and have never had rodents with it while before we got it got mice every year.

In my experience they definitely do work. I had a problem where Rats were getting into the attic through the Cable Duct. Thankfully they couldn't get down into the Rooms. I set traps and all but couldn't catch them.
Bought one of those ultrasonic units in Dunnes plug it in and low and behold two days later they were gone. Blocked up the Duct and never had any more problems.

Like allot of things they work if used properly..
We had mice in the garage a few times so I decided to try the ultrasonic..

Bought one that covers an area bigger than my garage and it supposedly sends a pulse back through the wiring of the house too.. Anyway, it specifically states not to obstruct it, I think it needs to be 5-6ft clear in front.

Since getting it a few years ago then only time we had mice, I checked and I indeed had stacked something right infront of the unit.. I did a tidy up and no problems since..

if you are getting them make sure they have clear area infront to allow the ultrasonics outinto the room..

And to answer a question above, no they won't work down through floor boards..

Got one of these for the garage in Tesco a few years back, plugged it in and let it off, touch wood I've never seen evidence of mice or rats in the garage since it went it.

It says it works on the basis that the sound is at a level to irritate their hearing so they basically just move on and don't hang around.

We always kep baited traps down too... easiest and quickest way to be alerted of their presence..

#don't care whether they work or not: the sound of them drives me batty, so can't use them. I'd check if you can hear them yourself before buying: if you can you may not want to put up with htis either.

Not sure one way or the other if they work. Just because you can't see them doesn't mean they aren't there. Personally I would prefer the old fashioned approach of traps. What I will say is a few years back when we were looking to move house a couple of places we viewed had them plugged in. As soon as I saw one it immediately turned me off the house. You might as well stick up a sign "Unclean! Unclean!". So my advice is plug them in somewhere that they won't be seen by visitors.
