I am considering buying a mobile home and siting it in Donegal. I would love some advice as Im not familiar with the procedure. Hidden costs etc. And is it worth the expense. We have two boys aged 13 and 9. All advice greatly appreciated.:)

Hi just bought a mobile home myself a week ago so dont know a lot but the obvious ones are make sure your location is good and you never pay the asking price or site fee for that year ,check for rust on the outside and leakes on the inside and apart from that enjoy ,
Home insurance is only an option most people dont get it.

Years ago we bought a mobile home from the owner of the campsite. We were one of the first mobile home occupants there. We were lucky that the connection to utilities was included in the sale along with the first year's rent.

It was not long before other people brought along their new mobile homes ("trailers" to people who own mobiles). Shortly we had the oldest mobile on the site. We came under much pressure from the other owners to upgrade our increasingly dilapidated trailer.

We had years of holidays before our mobile was bought by a guy who wanted the site for his new mobile.

I hope you enjoy your mobile.

OP, do your research on this as it can throw up some nasty surprises.

There are annual fees to be factored in which are fairly steep. You don't have 365 day access to the site but the worst aspect (IMHO) is the 10/12 year upgrading policy. So if you buy a 7 year old mobile home, you could potentially be forking out a large purchase price in just three years time

Have a look at the terms and conditions of any site you are thinking of using.
