Your bf is your father

Are you looking for a model that can actually fly or just one to admire? For flying models go to green hobby and model in Harold's cross.

You could get one that's almost ready to fly (minimal work required to put together or setup) or you could get a kit (which you build from scratch and then fly).

If you decide to go the kit direction you need loads of other stuff such as modelling knives, modelling saws, glue, a work surface, t pins etc.... Is he into that kind of stuff or not??

If he's going to fly he's going to crash. I'm new to the hobby and I've crashed a few times which is inevitable. I would have mangled my first plane completely if I had not first got a feel for it on my computer with a simulation program first.

You will see on alot of the American sites that you can get a plane up in the air for a minimal amount - around 100 euro - maybe even less. Most of these planes are not far from toys though and will give you a feel for the hobby but you will probably feel less than fulfilled flying as often they are underpowered also.

The weather in Ireland is alot different to the states aswell.

Expect to pay maybe 3-400 euro....plane, radio, engine etc.
I suppose they hobby isn't as easy to jump into as say soccer as all you need to do is buy a ball.

You will need to be a little mechanicial and technical to fix the plane when it crashes and to sort out various issues when they arise.

If you really want to do it though you will pull through. I've learned lots of new things since getting into this hobby which I enjoy. Flying is only one part of it.

workaccount, I would take a guess its plastic (static) models that is being asked about considering there is a mension of bikes, cars or aeroplanes. Just my guess anyway.

If it is try Marks Models of Hawkins Street (its near Dolier Street) they have a decent collection of what you are looking for. Has your bf built one before?
