Tax-Free status for the Toyota Prius?

If the government are so serious about the "green" issue, why don't they give VAT-free status to the Toyota Prius for the Taxi Industry?

Better still, anybody who buys this model of car gets it VAT-free?

I know its a simple idea but at least it would be a good start and would be very good PR for Ireland.

    Opinions?

What about conventional engines which are as low-emission as the Prius? Should they also be VAT-free?

IF not, why not? If so, then how do you measure emissions...do you take the cost of producing/reprocessing batteries into account, or just work on the ICE part of the equation?

They should put money into improving public transport instead, so we won't have to buy cars at all .....
