Can anyone recommend a good photography magazine for a beginner? Any Irish titles to look out for?

There are no Irish ones but the UK's "Digital Photo" is very good and has an excellent cover disc with easy to follow Photoshop lessons.

I have Amateur Photography on order each week, might not be to everybodys taste but I like it.

Whenever I can get it I like Outdoor Photography as well.

I've found Photo Plus to be very good for a beginner. It is primarily aimed at Canon DSLR owners, but any learner photographer could get good advice out of it.

My staple magazine, though, is Digital SLR Photography. They have some beginners features, as well as other inspirational articles.

    Thanks for those recommendations.

For beginners, Digital Photo is probably the best of the bunch as Carraigman has pointed out. Also worth considering are Practical Photography, and Photography Monthly. They all start to repeat themselves after a while, but if you're a beginner it'll all be fresh anyway! Amateur Photographer is pretty good (I subscribe as well), but I'd not really recommend it to a beginner

Nilhg, Outdoor PHotography (and Black and White photography as well) is one of the very few UK magazines which is good value on subscription here.

Professional Photographer usually has one or two really interesting articles/interviews...

Does less on the practical side but more general interest.. Good read..

    Digital SLR User UK magazine.
You can also get your stuff published in the magazine and they have a great website with regular competitions.

I buy magazines less than a year ago.
If you join Flickr and look for groups linked to a magazine you like,
it is one way of having an active input into advancing your photographic
    skills.

The UBCBG botanical group will store any photos you upload (it's part of the Group Rules), which is a nice back-up.

There are a lot of blogs that link to a wider magazine-styles world.

I tend to read Practical Photography, its grand enough but then I havenm't really tried the other mags.

Practical Photography FTW used to buy this way back in day when they were comparing different types of film. Still have a few of those issues around.

    Edit
I tend to also buy any other magazine that has an interesting article(s) in them.

I quite like WHAT Digital Camera, good monthly reviews and walkthroughs of different aspects like architecture or skies and also usually do the photoshop guides too

The July issue of Digital SLR User Magazine is worth getting.
There's a good feature on using small apertures to retain detail.

Another tip might be to open an account with Irishblogs.ie.

That way your work will be catalogued, based on a tagging system.

If you replace the search tag "anouilh" at the end of this link with any that takes your fancy, you will find some very good photos as well as a vast amount of reading matter.

There's a group on Flickr dedicated to that magazine.

Also, Source.ie has links to graduate colleges in Ireland as well as Britain.

Your photo is full of life, Sasar.
    Thank you for sharing.
