i left my camera on the desk last night as i usually do. Went to take the lens cover off today and noticed it was jammed and rattling... this isn't a good sound. Unscrewed filter which had somehow completely smashed, not just a little scratch or broken in half, totally smashed into smithereens from somebody jamming the lens cover on which was now stuck on the rim of the filter. Lens is now all scratched.. it is only the kit lens... BUT i haven't bought another one yet! when the family get home there will be hell! Very annoyed.. especially seeing as i'm starting a course on tuesday and have a scratched lens and no time to buy a new one before then!

    grrr....
    rant over now!

Did you leave it at college or at home? Damn, I'd be mad as hell too! *hugs*

What camera is it? You can have a loan of a Canon kit lens if it's any use...

Having a 50mm as your only lens would really limit you.
I'm not familiar with the range on offer from the dark side, but you'd be better off with something in the range of 28-70mm

Gave my kit one away there a while ago, otherwise you could have had it.
How badly is it scratched? It sounds pretty severe, but try taking a few snaps with it.

To be honest it looks better than most of Fajitas! lenses, and I'm not joking.

The lens may be more susceptible to flare now but the proof is in the pudding...get out with it tomorrow and start shooting!
