Yes, the best turnout so far with just over 60 contestants and lots of spectors coming to have a look.

I think the Hilltop Shooting Club had the largest club turnout.

Well done to Harbour House for hosting the event and a very big thanks to all the stage builders, RO's, JC in Stats and the guys that stayed back to help break down the range, clean up etc etc

    Great day out..........

Thanks to all who helped out with design, build, running the day & tidy up. It's appreciated. Also a huge thanks to John & Tommy from Harbour House. Finally to all the competitors. Well done & thanks for coming along. Hope you enjoyed the day.

Results both stage & match can be found on www.ipscireland.org

Our next comp. will be in Castlebridge, Wexford. Places limited to max 35 so registration will be on a first come first served. Appologies in advance if you miss out. Due to the compact nature of the range we need to limit the numbers.

    Pat.

Sigh, Glocks, is there anything they can't do?

TERRIFIC shoot, first proper IPSC shoot for me!
    Wrecked after it.
    Absolute, complete buzz!
    WOO HOO!!!

There were a good few Glocks about - they were entered in every division. Open, Standard and Production. They badly need to make a revolver :-)

It was good to see the range of stuff that people had and what they had done to them - especially the Open guns which are always a wonder.

Just looking through the scores there. On the day you could see the standard was quite high but when you look through the hit factors a large % of people scored highly. The accuracy was very good and there were a few that were a bit nibble on the feet too. Considering a large number were on their first officially sanctioned match (one took a place in Open and one took a place in Production) it is great to see.

There's gonna be some competition for those spots for the Europeans.

A number of guys from our club came down in the morning for a look and thought it was great craic and well run. Already a good few of em putting their names forward for consideration for training.

All in all a great outcome from the day.

Can't make the one in Castlebridge, unfortunately :(

    Hi All,

Was at the practical shoot at harbour house on Sunday and I also have been at practical shoots at the Midlands in the past.

There seems to be a big difference in how practical shooting is done at the two Ranges. The shoot that I saw at the Midlands Range was all static shooting at paper Targets only while at the Nurney shoot there was running of competitors with their guns and also shooting at steel targets.

Is the range at the Midlands not up to spec for practical shooting or what?

One thing for sure the shoot yesterday was a credit and a most enjoyable day out from a specetator point of view in which there were many of.

Come on Midlands stop the boring Competitions and open up and be like the other ranges show the sport for what it is and have some fun.

Hu, welcome to boards but might I suggest that opening your first post by ragging on a club isn't really a good way to start?

The poster is either not fully aware of the situation or is intentionally attempting stir the sh!t.

I am a founding member of Harbour House and would like to state that the Midlands facility is one of (If not the) premier shooting facility in the country. To state that the sportsmen were 'running and shooting' (apologies if paraphrase is incorrect) is giving the wrong impression of what takes place at these matches, The match at Harbour house was run along the exact same lines and DOJ recommendations as the ones in the Midlands.

    Hi Hu, welcome,

You obviously weren't there for the briefing before the Midlands shoot. It was explained very clearly that this shoot was to be static due to ongoing discussions with the powers that be regarding moving with a loaded pistol.

There was big disappointment at the static nature, but better than no shooting at all. The IPSA organisers were merely playing by the book as they always rightly do, you may have noticed during the stage briefing on Sunday (if you were there) that we were strictly prohibited from moving more than two steps backwards.
Again this was making sure that all competitors adhere vehemently to the current guidelines.

This is my take on the situation as a rank and file member.

I hope this clears that up completely for you.

When in Rome do as Rome does. Different ranges different regulations. Get over it.

    Hu,

Glad to hear you enjoyed the shoot.

As G17 pointed out there are a number of considerations at any IPSA Sanctioned shoot such as the IPSC Rules, IPSA Rules and Club House Rules, which all must be taken into account and accepted before you can take your place on the line.

IPSA have been in discussion with the powers that be as to what they will and will not allow at a shoot which they organise. This was all pointed out during the general Welcome and Range briefing at the start and, on this occasion, rearward movement while holding a loaded firearm, except for two steps to allow you to move back out of an aperture, was prohibited. If you wished to do more than that you had to re-holster while facing downrange.

No matter what form of shooting sport or what range you go to you will see the same general principles applied.
    • Rules of the House
    • Rules of the organising body and
    • Rules of the Sport,
    all applied to everyone.

It is unfortunate when restrictions like this are required as it means you are at a disadvantage when you go to a competition abroad where this exact type of movement is required and it is a skill which has not been practiced but thems' the breaks.

As for "running of competitors" - I wouldn't go that far - me personally it is sort of a gracefully loping athletic stride - don't get me wrong I have no problem running - it's stopping that I have a problem with ;)

It's not my fault - I've been wearing hob nail boots to these events.

One of these days I'll get a pair of space age slippers and shiny trousers like the rest of em and show these whipper snappers what greased lightning looks like.

For instance, in the next shoot in C.I.P.C., Wexford, probably only Glocks will be allowed. If you don't have a Glock you can spray your SIG, Tan, STI or whatever, black and there will be metal files in the safety area to 'square off' the frankly ridiculous furniture you see on guns that aren't Glocks. Tipp-Ex will also be available to create sights (please use in a well ventilated area).

Subject to approval, you may use a non Glock; however, for every Mike, Jam, Misfire or indeed even if a biscuit drops into your coffee, you must get the R.O.'s attention to silence the range and you must shout "WOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED IF I'D HAD A GLOCK, SHEESH, YOU PEOPLE MUST THINK ME A MONSTER!".

I think this is a balanced and fair approach.
    Look forward to seeing you.

    Thank you.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Ju - hu, with respect could you think before you post, in your comment you do no good for the Mid-Lands or The People in the Harbour House Club.

The people that own and run the club in Nurney have put a lot money and effort into setting up their range and I am sure they don't allow any practices that would jeopardize the sport or their club.

As for the Mid-Lands, it is one of the best run and safest ranges I have been on.

Please keep the SPORT in mind when you make a comment, it is bigger than anyone individual or club.

What you saw at MNSCI was standard exercises. These are designed to test basic IPSC skill sets i.e draws, re-loads etc. What you saw at Nurney was a Level II IPSC match. Both are very different types of shooting & it's impossible to try and compare them as they're desinged for different purposes. The standard exercises may not be as spectator friendly as an IPSC match but still it's very challanging shoot.
