Getting back into Spikes

    Hi all,
I' dug out my old splkes last month but they weren't in greak nick, so I splashed out on a new pair. I'm not planning on wearing them anytime soon but just wondered what the best advise was, I remember i suffered some injury when over training and doing too many track sessions with the back in the day.
My paln would be to run some Cross country during the winter and some track next summer(800 or 1500).
Should I start wearing spikes for some speedwork on grass, or once I join a club stat wearing them for track sessions? Or splash out on racing flats too ..

I only wear my spikes when racing.

If you've never worn them before, it might be worth doing a short jog and some strides in them before your first race so that your feet are used to them on race day.

There might be an argument for wearing spikes for a session if you were doing something really fast - 3 x 300m with 10 min recovery perhaps. Also, if you're training on a tartan track and it is wet, it might be slippery in normal trainers.

I'd save the spikes for the races though...

Yes, wear you flats but always ensure you have a few dry runs before a race.

Even sprinters will use flats, normal trainers or middle-distance spikes for their longer stuff (300-600m).

    Hi all,
Well i'm going to do my first Cross country race in 12 years on the 18th. Havent run in spikes since then, Would it be ok jsut to do a few K during the week in spikes to get used to them again?

Did a few track runs during hte summer but ran in runners...

    Cheers.
