Anyone know if there is a Sigma lenses repair shop in Ireland? I have a very sick 50-500mm that can't autofocus any more following a fall and before I go down the road of replacing it, I want to see if it can be repaired.

    Thanks a million.

I'm not sure if they still do it but Conns serviced a lens for me about 3 years ago. I believe it went to a chap in Meath.

I've used Hahnel in the past ... Liam is the name of the guy who services Sigma stuff ...

    They are very good.

Simon, I really appreciate that. I'm nervy enough about how a repair would turn out. I'm going to call the insurance company first to see what they say about repair/replacement because it is supposed to be insured for all risks.

In case anyone is wondering, this is not water damage.

As far as I know they are Sigma's only authorised repair dealers in Ireland ... they did a calibration on my (now sineadw's) 24-70 F2.8

I know what you mean ... I actually had a nightmare last night in which my 1D MkIII fell from a height ... causing it to come apart at the seams ... no idea what triggered it ... except that we are approaching the anniversary of this happening to my last 1D Mk III ... :p

    Wow, what a nightmare.

In relation to Canon repairs, I see that CPS are running a Canon Professional Imaging Open Day. Unfortunately, I won't be around to attend. Hopefully anyone with CPS membership got the invite.

I'd be interested to hear what was discussed at it, and what people thought.

Is that the one on Monday Paul, in Leopardstown?

I spoke to both the insurers and Hahnel this morning. Insurance is okay.

Based on what I know of the damage to the lens, the autofocus motor is fine. We think there's an electrical problem, possibly in the contact points between the lens and the camera. Hahnel are fairly sure it can be repaired so I am going to ship it down to them tomorrow afternoon. I may have it back at the end of next week as I'll be down there anyway.

    Thanks everyone for the assistance.

The mail I got said Tuesday 17th June 2008. Maybe they are running more than one and limiting the invites to a specific day?
