The 2008 Access & Mobility Exhibition takes place on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st June at the Main Hall, RDS, Dublin. Now in its seventh year, the Exhibition caters for healthcare professionals, carers and people with disabilities and will have 32 stands covering everything from vehicle conversions, bathroom and kitchen aids and prosthetic limbs through to specially adapted baby seats, cots and trikes

At the photocall to announce details of the 2008 event, Irish paralympian Rosemary Tallon joined exhibition director Richard Ryder in roadtesting the Motomed Viva2 from Lyncare which will be on display at the event. Rosemary, who works for Motability Ireland in Ashbourne, Co. Meath represented Ireland in the 2004 Olympic Games and is currently on the shortlist for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

As well as showcasing the latest developments in assisted mobility, the 2008 event will also feature several new initiatives. For healthcare professionals and carers, there will be a daylong seminar on Friday 20th June and speakers will include Dr. Alan Martin from Beaumont Hospital and Dr. Mark Delargy, Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine at the National Rehabilitation Hospital.

A new feature this year is purpose-built mobility-friendly house, incorporating a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living area with all the latest assistive equipment.

There will also be a Mobility Loan Point, where a number of powered, manual wheelchairs and scooters will be available for hire, free of charge.

Last year’s event attracted over 3,500 visitors and Richard Ryder, director of the Access & Mobility Exhibition, said that the event was very important to anyone involved with disability because visitors can view, roadtest and discuss the latest advancements with the providers directly. Said Richard, “Anyone faced with the need to radically change their lifestyle or adapt their living space due to an accident or illness can often find it a very daunting task. Showcasing relevant products and services in one location allows professionals and affected individuals the opportunity to make informed choices.”

The Access & Mobility Exhibition will run from 10 a.m. to 5 pm. approximately each day and access to all areas is free of charge. Full details on www.accessandmobility.ie
