What makes a perfect demo tape to work in Radio? What should it have to make it stand out?

Well it shouldn't be a tape for a start - these days, you'll want to supply your demo as a CD or MP3 - or possibly, if you have web site building abilities, a password protected site with an embedded podcast or something...

Anyway, exactly what goes into it depends on what radio work you want to do. What are you planning to be? ... A newscaster? Sports reporter? Talk show host? Or everybody's favourite... ( ) a jock (music DJ/presenter)?

The ideal demo should be short (3 to 5 minutes is usually enough) and it's purpose should be purely to showcase your voice and your personality - because, on radio, that's pretty much all you've got to work with.

Don't put on a voice - don't try to sound like anyone else who's already on the air - and certainly don't do the "mid-Atlantic" thing - just relax and be yourself, and as long as you've got a good voice, good personality, good speaking and presenting skills, and are easy on the ear, just being yourself should be enough to make you stand out from the crowd.
