RTE World Report (close to the edit)

Or rather not close enough. This morning, during a typically leaden narrative during World Report on RTE radio 1, the speaker twice fluffed his lines and went a second time (luckily he was a professional in this repsect and didn't let out a swear word!). Its not the first time I've heard a precorded report on RTE get past the programme editor/producer without having been listened to lately.

    Mike.

Having sat in on a recording of the News at 1 in RTE, I would guess what happened is that particular piece came in too late for the sound guy to edit before putting it into the system to play.

Apparently the journos are told to have their pre-recorded stuff into the system for him to work on at least 15 mins before air time. However a lot of it comes in with 5 mins to go.

Got to say though that the guy I sat in with was one of the best on the fly editors I've ever seen. He listened through the piece once putting in markers as he went along. Then he went back and cut out chunks of the wave form without listening to it again. When it came to be played during the news it was word perfect.

Anyway, I'm not excusing it, but that could be what happened.
