The recent Hollywood writers' strike tipped California into a recession, resulting in a loss of $2.1 billion to the state economy and costing 37,700 jobs, the Milken Institute said in a research report.

Damn. And people were worried about their favourite show not being on!

Looks like the actors could be going out soon. I know a lot of the shows have started filming early but there could still be disruption. I pity the 'ordinary' people involved in the industry who may have just about got themselves straight after the last shut down and they're facing it again.

Thats a lot of money and shows what influence Hollywood has.

Doesnt California have the 3rd biggest economy in the world? Its amazing that a strike could put it into a recession.

If the actors go there wont be much public support I'd say

Agreed. The writers got a lot of sympathy. And they deserved it, they're treated like s**t in Hollywood. Although public support was starting to run dry toward the end. Actors would able to whip up a lot more media attention however.

I dunno... SAG's militancy is to be expected but I just can't see actors voting to authorise a strike. Something like 75% in favour is needed.

Perhaps they'll ask for Internet money.

I'd imagine (and I've no figures to back this up) that about 75% of actors are just jobbing actors earning no more than an average wage. of course it'll be George Clooney who'll be the face of it though (or someone like George anyway...)

Wow. That emphasises the collective spending power of Joe and Josephine Soap in a rather different way.
