between the chuggers, politcal representives, buskers, charity collections, side shows, raffle ticket sellers, etc etc,

just walked down my towns main street, 3rd of the way down, two chuggers, standing in a row, positioned in a way, if you go down either side, or down the middle, you are the same the same distance from them, only total avoidence of eye contact and quickly looking in a shop window, avoided being stopped, now dont get me wrong, i dont mind giveing to charity, i just dont like it being sold to me in my own time, if i have an interest, i'll investigate for my self,

half way down the street, two yes campaingers for lisburn, positioned similar to the chuggers, wouldn't have minded being stopped by one of them, just to hear his arguement, because in fairness, all i have heard from the yes side so far, is why the no side is wrong, :D

and in the final 3rd, two more chuugers, same charity as the first two, positioned the same, thankfully, had caught two other inocent victimes

    phew....

Yeah it's getting a tad ridiculous alright.

I avoid going into Dublin city due to the state Grafton Street is on a Saturday.

Dundrum main street is now a joke on the weekends too, f*cking chuggers everywhere, all the way up the roads and standing at the doors of the town centre.

I like musicians/buskers though and the more the merrier really. Dundrum town centre was absolutely swarmed with politicians last week, giving "vote yes" balloons to kids and everything. Dodged them quite happily though.

I was in Egypt in March where there's quite a few hawkers depending on where you are and I can honestly say they're not half as bad as the chuggers we have here.

Likewise I was in NY in January and there was not one chugger to be seen, in Manhattan!

I think it'll get to the point where people will get so fed up of chuggers that the charities involved will actually start to lose money due to drops in donations, and we'll see them die down.

I completely agree with the OP

Grafton St is a disgrace!!!

It is impossible to get off the luas stop and walk to Trinity College without buskers, chuggers, beggars etc.

Please just Fcuk off and leave me alone!!!

I now walk down Dawson Street and the chuggers are trying to get me there.

Something seriously needs to be done

O'Connell Street? Yeah, that's chugger central at this time on a Friday. The only way I will ever stop for a chugger is if they rugby tackle me to the ground. As it is, i just keep my head down and power on through, making sure to cut them off with a firm "no thanks" if they try their sales pitch.

PS: If we're talking about other cities, I never saw one chugger in my two years in Montreal. Sure, there were a few people with buckets for donations but they kept off to the side and did not stop people to 'chat' to them.

Why does anyone stop for the chuggers? Just takes a shake of the head or a "no thanks" and keep walking.

Why be polite when you can just tell them to f*ck right off?

Except sometimes they follow you half way down Grafton street before they give up.

not to focus just on chuggers, as their are plenty of threads on them, but just in response to your two comments, not sure where they originated, but first encountered them on a shopping street in south london, did not see one here for a few years after that first encounter, and that was in dublin, was another couple of years before seen them in sligo/donegal
