    Hi All,

I was watching the BBC TV series Hustle recently, about a cell unit of con-artists operating in London. One of themes of the show that makes it so entertaining is the fact that the characters arange the world around them to suit themselves through lying, conning and manipulation.

I'm looking to compile a list of films that involve the cunning of the con-artist, be they recent or decades old. So far I'm aware of the below list. If anyone has any further recommendations, feel free to share. Also, reasons why you recommend a film will be appreciated.

    Thanks In Advance

    Con Artist Films

    The Sting
    Maverick
Oceans 11 and sequels (original also)

Midnight Sting is a remake of The Sting, but is pretty good in it's own right (probably because James Woods is in it).

Agree with Moosejam - The Sting is suberb. Recently watched Welcome to Collinwood too, which is a very funny satire on the conman film with George Clooney, Sam Rockwell, William H Macy. Very surprising film.

Heartbreakers was interesting, I thought - a mother and daughter con team fleece men out of their assets.

What about Jackie Brown? Another feminist con story, with occasional Tarantino violence. :pac:

Shooting Fish wasn't too bad - one great scene where the 2 guys are selling attic insulation - great con ...

Another vote for Nueve Reinas/Nine Queens. I'd avoid the Eneglish language remake though.

All true. Heist, also by David Mamet, is worth watching too.

I didn't see posted earlier in the thread but yeah, it's great.

I watched it a few months back after enjoying a few other of Mamets films.
    Thought it was terrible.Appalling actually
Predictable script and the leading actress was like a piece of wood.

    Some good con films:
    Rounders
    Shade
    Matchstick Men
    Criminal
    The Spanish Prisoner
    Confidence
    Glengarry Glen Ross
    The Color of Money
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
    Lucky Number Slevin
    The Usual Suspects

    Ones to Avoid:
    Grifters
    House of Cards

don't know if it counts but the usual suspects hands down if it does. if it doesn't then probably rounders (ed norton is a very under rated actor)

Ya if the usual suspects is counted then its debate over IMO, but another couple of lesser know conmen films that are fairly good are,

    Shade
    Circus
Oceans 11 (i couldnt think of a third unknown :))

Nine Queens was good but predictible ...

Midnight Sting has got to be one of my favourites ...

The Hot Rock is a classic Redford heist/con movie ...

IMO Lucky Number Slevin could be considered a Con movie ... And a good one at that ...

The problem with any con movie is that you are always looking for the meta-con that is the overall plot & in some ways ruins the enjoyment of the flm .. you know what I'm saying? They always have a big twist in the end that reveals the plot to be one long con ...

... If thats the case then The Usual Suspects is King Kon ...
