Visa for someone from Peru visiting Ireland

    Hi all,

I'd appreciate your thoughts on this:

I met a wonderful Peruvian woman while I was travelling in Italy last year, and we have been in constant contact ever since. She's got a good, well-paying job (not easy in Peru), has a degree, loves animals and kids and is a great person... as far as i can tell!

She wants to visit me in Ireland. Cool.

The problem is... according to her the irish consulate in Lima want her to provide a letter from me saying she'll be staying with me and a copy of my passport.

It's the passport bit that worries me. Am I being set up for a scam??

I am a terrible worrier so I thought I'd post here and see if I'm being crazy.

Anyone heard of any scams involving passport copies (and Peruvians!)?

    Advice would be appreciated!

This is not really a legal issue. Moved to Travel & Holidays.

The Irish embassy would need proof that you are a bona fide Irish citizen. The only proof of that is your passport. To ease your concerns you can send the copy to the embassy direct.

Not really a Travel & Holidays issue either. Can't think of anywhere better than PI at the moment, seem as it's vaguely a matter of the heart..

    QFT

But if you've been in constant contact with her ever since, months and months... I doubt it's a scam. Scammers don't wait that long - they try to get you as fast as possible, otherwise it's a waste of time & energy for them.

    Good luck!

    Hey OP,

I was in Peru two years ago and my passport was stolen. This has absolutely nothing to do with your girl obviously but because it was stolen I ended up at the Irish consulate in Lima and I met the Honorary Consul. He was a very nice man. His name is Michael Russell. If he's still as nice as he was when he helped me out I'm sure him or his small staff would have no problem directly answering your queries if you contact them:
    Contact Details

Also by the way if he is helpful to you he said that the best way to thank him is to write to the Dept. of Foreign affairs and tell them he helped you. I did this when I came home and I hope it helped him get another few years or however it works.

Sorry - Couldn't think where else. Thunderdome?

Anyway, OP, all the info you need is here.

I suggest you call the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service, the contact details are on that webpage. They will tell you definitively.

OP, if you are at all worried, ask her to send the application to you and you can then submit the entire application to the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service yourself. That way you will know for sure if it is a scam or not.

Some good info there. This isn't a PI though so I'm locking it. All the info you need is up there /\
