.... and I will gladly take a Sky HD box!
Having seen HD for the first time on my tv (thanks to my Popcorn Hour box) - I have to say that I am impressed by all things HD!

    Seconded.

If they dropped the HD sub i would even get the sports and movies subs, because of the HD content.

I just dont see the point getting these subs with only SD. HD would make them worth it, but i refuse to pay the HD subscription.

the charge for sky+ was around for a couple of years. what would persuade me to sign up would be a price drop for the box!

The HD box is now 299 right? I know it's Freesat - but isn't the Freeview HD PVR (from what I remember reading somewhere) - looking like coming in around the €500 mark?

I too would be more likely to switch on Sports if I had HD

I have the top package with Sky (All channels, HD and multiroom) but by adding the HD subscription it costs me 112 euro a month
At least if the dropped the 15 euro HD subscription fee I woul feel like I was getting a better deal as im technically paying twice for channels I already have
But I cant see them dropping the fee anytime soon as not too many people in Ireland have the HD so it's a money spinner for them

Why would they drop it is right.

Whats your total monthly sub, if you don't mind me asking?

i would've gone for Sky HD if there wasn't the €15 sub. It just that little straw that is too much for me on top of hardware costs

You only have 2 boxes, he must have 3 (€15 per month per extra box.)

    Yep 3 boxes-2 plus and 1 HD
I hope they do get rid of the 15 euro a month charge though,
I dont mind paying for the multiroom but I remember a while ago they used to charge an extra 15 euro for the recording facility on the Sky plus but they dropped that if you subscribed to the premium channels(i think, open to correction)
Something similar to that regarding the HD would be a good selling point
I know lots of people that would get the HD if that charge was dropped but at the moment , for the amount of channels its not really worth it

/\ all you need these days, for the sky + features, is an ''active sky sub''.

mind you, on that note, can someone clarify something for me.

say Sky hopefully do away with said rule in the future, would we then be able to use our settop boxes as stand alone PVRS, or are they locked to SKY somehow?

They are locked to your subscription/card, and if you dont renew I believe you cant access the stuff on the hard-drive anymore either.

actually, provided you have your box connected, you can watch your respective recorded shows for one free month after cancellation.

I guess it's a teaser to get you to re/subscribe.

on the other issue, with just the box and cable connected, the recording features are still there. It's just that SKY have them disabled/locked, for use, with as you say there viewing card.

so in theory if they enable/unlock them for general use, we could use it as a regular PVR with SKYs epg.

Edit: It seems as though they do provide said option somewhat. Reading the small print there on the STAR/SKY+ offer, they apparently let you have the recording features for €15/month with no regular sky tv sub of any kind. So that would mean SKY+/fta system then, or maybe it's the paid SKY EPG, with just what fta channels are available?
Sky+ subscription required to use Personal Video Recorder features of Sky+ (free while you subscribe to any Sky digital package, otherwise £10 a month)

I know, UK version but you get the picture
