O2 & Webtext & AFT & SE W910i

hi

i am currently with meteor & i have a SE 810i phone for which i currently use AFT application to send texts....works a treat.

my contract is up with meteor in august & i am seriously thinking of porting my 087XXXXXXX number to O2 (i originally ported from Vodafone to Meteor).

so a few questions....

Q1. how reliable in the O2 website? I have heard it undergoes site maintenance or is down more than Meteor/Vodafone websites. is this true?

Q2. if I go for the SE 910i phone (3G i believe) is there any need for me to continue to use AFT? i would guess so as AFT connects, sends the message & disconnects whereas with 3G i would be paying for the connection etc etc. what do people think?

Q3. seeing as the SE 910i is a 3G phone does this mean that the isp apn is automatically enabled on the O2 phone account or would i have ring O2 up and ask them to enable it?

anyone currently using an SE 910i on O2 and using AFT as well?

i'm confused here. the only difference with 3g and grps is the speed. the charges are exactly the same. with aft you'd never even know whether the message was sent over gprs or 3g. what do you mean by you'd be paying for the connection etc?

what phone you buy has no effect on how you're set up at o2's end but meteor are the only network that have isp access turned off by default. barring technical issues, it should be enabled when you switch

thanks for the reply Sam...i had a hunch this morning that you would be the first

as regards connection charges etc etc i though all of the mobile operators had a connection charge, then charge per kb sent/received etc etc. if not then my bad.

the main reason i would think of switching to O2 is because they allow their webtexts to be sent all over the world.

so you say that O2's isp is enabled by default? kewl. btw...have you ever got SE phones working with O2's isp? i know you figured out SE and meteors' isp (you pm-ed me the settings a while back for meteor and SE 810i...thanks again).

does anyone know how often O2's website goes down?

actually vodafone and meteor do but o2 don't. aft costs about 0.25c per text on o2. and i got the impression from your post that you thought that the fact that it was over 3g would affect the cost. it won't.

do you know aft supports smsdiscount? their business practices seem a bit dodgy but they allow texts anywhere in the world for about 3c and the texts appear to come from your number. take a look at www.smsdiscount.com

yes i have. just tried it out a second ago and it worked.

i couldn't give you an exact figure because i don't use o2 often. someone else might be able to help you there

is there an smsdiscount app which work on mobile phones?

it would be preferable to be able to send txts anywhere in the world from my mobile (will not always be at a PC). that was my main reason for switching to O2 and to use AFT on my mobile.

smsdiscount looks good though.

yeah aft does. Go to add a new account and you'll see smsdiscount as one of the network options

I've been with o2 for the past 18 months and only once have I had a problem with webtexts on their site and that was 3 wks ago. The big advantage with o2's webtext is that you can text overseas for free.Beats the other operators webtexts hands down.
