Ireland and renewable energy

    Was just reading this

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/jun/06/renewableenergy.alternativeenergy

A country like Portugal which would be considered less wealthy than Ireland (I think) is being very innovative here and up there with the best in Europe. I can't believe how high Sweden and those other countries are in their renewable energy levels.
Why aren't Ireland or Britain investing in this at the moment? I can understand why Ireland isn't as we're always incompetant when it comes to stuff like this, but aren't Britain supposed to be setting examples for smaller countries? Can you see Ireland getting proactive on this subject at all?

Solar is not the way to go for Ireland ( Wind or wave ) but your point is still valid. Im also amazed at the low percentage for Holland.

Every time a political decision, or indecision, seems to be so mindlessly stupid as to make one gape, is is usually because of

    Vested. Interests.

As for the solar station: "It is expected to supply 45MW of electricity each year, enough to power 30,000 homes"

And this is a flagship megaproject? Domestic energy demand will have to be suppressed, whether by law or by market forces. There's only so many solar panels that can be built.
