    Hi all,

Myself and 4 mates (all blokes, mid 20's) were thinking of going to Cuba for 2 weeks in early August and I was wondering if people had any suggestions.

Our current plan is to fly into Havana and spend a few days there before going to an all inclusive resort in Varadero.

I've heard mixed reports about all incl. resorts in Varadero. Has anyone any comments and suggestions as to how we could do it any different?

Also, what's the nightlife like in Varadero - v. important!! :D

    thanks

To be totally honest, I'm not sure that Cuba is a place that I would chose for a group of lads. Havana has a great night life, but Varadero is a little bit staid. It's a few (5) years since I was there, but my impression was that Varadero was filled with couples, a lot of honeymoons etc. Don't get me wrong, it's a fabulous place, but I don't think it's known for it's night life. Also, August would be slap bang in the middle of hurrican season!Have you considered Cancun? It is party central, but again, hurricane season in August.

Must say I agree on your opinion of Varadero, especially in Summer.
During winter you've more of a chance of a wider range of visitors from
Canada in the resorts, but in low/hurricane season you might find Varadero
a tad quiet if it's a lads holiday you're looking for. A lot of people tend to
stick to the bars in their particular AI resort so depending on which hotel
you're staying in the crowd can vary. Habana will have plenty to keep you
entertained, don't spend the rest of your hols just lounging in Varadero -
make sure you get out to see the real Cuba, especially the smaller regional
    towns.

A good few years since we were there - I'd head for Varadero first then spend a few nights in Havana only because the trip from Varadero to the airport is a long journey and you need to get up at an ungodly hour for the bus.

As has been said Varadero is mainly couples or retired groups.

thanks for the tips guys - i wasn't aware Varadero was like that. That's a pity....

But if we were to spend the few days partying in havana, a bit relaxing in varadero and a bit seeing a bit more of the country, that wouldn't be so bad eh?!

That sounds like a good plan to me, you'll probably need a few days relaxing after Havana, it really is an amazing place. It's so unlike any other city you'll see. We never got a chance to see the 'real Cuba' and I've always regretted that, so if you get the chance to see beyond Havana and the resorts, I'd grab it. Enjoy yourselves! :)

I've deleted some crap from this thread.

The forum charter says that if you don't have anything constructive to say, don't post. It also states that if you have an issue with a post, report it. Don't comment on it in the thread..

Anyway, back to the question - seems an odd choice of holiday tbh. It certainly wouldn't be one I'd recommend for 4 guys in that age group.
